Electric machines (EMs) of electrified vehicle drivetrains can be tested on drivetrain test benches at an early stage development. In order to protect the EMs from premature damage or failure during testing, monitoring their thermal condition is important. Due package requirements compact and powerful with high-speed high-power densities, heat build-up inside motor operation particularly high. For this reason, fluid cooling exchangers increasingly being used in EMs. The analysed work are water-cooled by a jacket. This influences flow machine through transfer mechanisms, making it difficult detect paper presents novel method for non-destructive non-contact using thermography. experimental setup, infrared images intact EM taken. A bearing EM's rotor then damaged synthetically, experiment repeated. processed appropriate software. analysis shows that propagation differs significantly without damage. means thermography opens up another results investigation serve as basis future powertrain artificial intelligence (AI).
