Numerous studies on reducing the urban heat island effect have concentrated isolated cold islands, analyzing their cooling impact in terms of size and shape. From an international perspective, shown that enhancing connectivity islands can enhance but they do not suggest specific processes ideas for connectivity. This study aims to investigate how connect optimize spatial pattern island. Therefore, a framework is constructed this study: source area - network. Firstly, core was identified by morphological analysis. Then, analysis applied identify sources. Afterward, minimum cumulative resistance model used construct In Nanjing, case point, results reveal total 27 areas 52 corridors been identified. 6 first-level CSAs situated northern suburbs Nanjing prevent spread effect. 2 second-level 18 third-level are scattered throughout improve climate. The 29 primary help mitigate transfer from city center. 23 secondary mainly located centers contributing preventing aggregating. be as strategic measure fragmentation isolation island, which provides implications further expansion

Urbanization is advancing rapidly across the globe, and urban agglomeration (UA) has become an important by-product of urbanization expansion. The rapid development UAs profound impacts on land use directly affects various regional ecosystem services (ES). Understanding these in with developed economies fragile ecosystems can help decision-makers formulate ecological protection planning policies. Here, we selected 13 eastern, central, western China analyzed characteristics spatiotemporal changes built-up trade-off synergy between ES from 2000 to 2020. We found that increased outer edge a city form expansion, which was more prominent at national scales. Carbon storage, biodiversity conservation, habitat quality, soil water conservation tended decrease, but nutrition delivery ratio food supply increase. Various presented negative synergistic relationship. difference closely related level geographical location. Our findings demonstrate different levels be used sustain develop high-quality UAs.

Rapid urbanisation in the global south has often introduced substantial and rapid uncontrolled Land Use Cover (LULC) changes, considerably affecting Surface Temperature (LST) patterns. Understanding relationship between LULC changes LST is essential to mitigate such effects, considering urban heat island (UHI). This study aims elucidate spatiotemporal variations alterations of areas compared changes. The focused on a peripheral area Phnom Penh (Cambodia) undergoing development. Using Landsat images from 2000 2021, analysis employed an exploratory time-series LST. revealed noticeable variability (20 69 °C), which was predominantly influenced by seasonal also provided insights into how varies within different at exact spatial locations. These did not manifest uniformly but displayed site-specific responses accounts for changing land surfaces’ complex physical energy interaction over time. methodology offers replicable model other similarly structured, rapidly urbanised regions utilising novel semi-automatic processing images, potentially inspiring future research various planning monitoring contexts.

The urban climate has undergone significant changes due to the rapid population growth, leading a decline in vegetation cover and an increase land surface temperature (LST). This study aims assess influence of use (LULC) on LST four major areas southwestern Ethiopia, namely Jimma, Bonga, Metu Nekemte, during period from 2002 2024. To investigate impact LULC dynamics LST, 30m spatial resolution images Landsat were utilized, including Thematic Mapper (TM) for year Operational Land Imager (OLI) Thermal Infrared (TIRS) years 2014 Over past 22 years, mean increased by 2.81°C, 2.94°C, 3.37°C, 3.96°C Metu, respectively. can be attributed various factors, but one primary reasons is linked urbanization decrease forest cover. Changes triggered significantly influences cities. results highlight increment impervious as key factors contributing upward trend LST. indicate that centers with less experience higher compared their surroundings. this necessity effective planning through greenery parks mitigate increasing trends which improve thermal comfort levels.
