Abstract Cities and companies have great potential to reduce pressures on Earth system boundaries. Science-based target setting has emerged as a powerful tool help achieve the potential, but its uptake been limited. Moreover, cities usually develop their targets separately, even though many are co-located. Focusing top 200 500 by greenhouse gas emissions, we analyse current state of adopting science-based for climate. Of these key actors, 110 with existing net-zero 22 could together eliminate up 3.41 GtCO 2 e annual emissions. We argue that this reduction increase much 67% (to 5.70 e) if already bring co-located counterparts board keep abreast ambitions. Using freshwater another example, discuss entry points addressing interrelated boundaries through city–company collaborations. This study reviews the electrolysis techniques for green-hydrogen (GH2) production, with primary focus on their environmental sustainability implications. Different stages of GH2 value chain are characterized regarding life cycle analysis (LCA), presenting methods, materials, energy sources, and efficiency. Qualified LCA results would lead to proper decision-making, which depends input choices data quality used. Therefore, inventory useful technical production in studies reviewed. Also, recent developments toward potentially enhancing discussed. The showed that solar wind energies as most promising sources lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) turbine cases. reported impacts (EIs) proton-exchange membrane (PEM) technology. There is still limited comparing various EIs (e.g. freshwater eutrophication) accompanying costs. However, it recommended consider H2 mainly efficiency, consumption lifetime along miniaturization. future may final use produced fuel cells), heat recovery materials recycling complete visibility towards optimizing efficiency EIs.

Mitigating urban overheating is vital to create livable futures. Research on heat mitigation plentiful, while knowledge about the actual measures local governments are implementing limited. This study examines 7,500+ actions by 2,500+ cities under two flagship programs of European Commission. The analysis reveals that cities' strategies pivot around green- and water-based technologies (66% actions) mildly leveraging permeable reflective surfaces (35%) rarely solar shading wind control (8%) or stimuli-responsive/smart systems (2%). Hundreds (1) indicate extreme as a hazard growing intensity and/or frequency, (2) located in hot-summer climatic zones, (3) will experience increasingly frequent heatwaves, (4) host numerous population not reporting any precaution. Moreover, show limited familiarity with combinatorial approaches little attention specific vulnerable groups. Prevention, awareness, social justice should receive more attention.

Introduction This study explores the economic and environmental impacts of water resources in context achieving climate neutrality EU Strategy for Danube Region (EUSDR). The research is focused on eight EUSDR member states: Bulgaria, Czechia, Germany, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Romania, Slovakia, with aim analyzing dynamic relationship between resources, growth, sustainability. Given ambitious goals European Green Deal, this examines how management can support transition towards neutrality. Methods A econometric model was developed using a consolidated database relevant indicators from 2010 to 2021. selected included GDP per capita, use agriculture, gross abstraction, sewage sludge production, productivity. validated statistical tools such as One-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test, analysis conducted Gretl IBM-SPSS 25 software. Results findings reveal that significantly contributes achievement targets. achieved over 86% significance explaining financial efforts needed achieve Deal’s 2030 2050 goals. Moreover, productivity investments water-related infrastructure were found play critical roles ensuring success these policies. Discussion results highlight importance policy coordination across states need increased investment sustainable resource management. Achieving requires addressing disparities enhancing regional cooperation. Conclusion proposed offers valuable tool monitoring progress neutrality, particularly relation underlines targeted interventions meet while safeguarding region's resources.
