Freshwater turtles are among the least studied faunas in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Here, we report presence of freshwater (Cuora amboinensis) from Car Nicobar, a small remote island archipelago comprising Islands. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with people belonging to Nicobarese tribes (n = 233) gather their local ecological knowledge as supportive information obtain better understanding status Nicobar. Most interviewees (90%) opined that found be rare or very on Island. All respondents (100%) expressed willingness contribute future conservation projects. Community-level awareness emerged prominent issue for using Garrett ranking method. A stream network map was prepared digital elevation model visualize streams potential habitats turtles. This is essential an perspective since scarce study emphasizes importance engagement stakeholders projects recommends providing adequate attention protection turtle diversity

Climate change and marine litter are inextricably linked, their interaction manifests differently depending on the specific environmental biological characteristics, other human activities taking place. The negative impacts resulting from those synergistic interactions threatening coastal ecosystems many goods services they provide. This is particularly pervasive in zone of Indian subcontinent. India already experiencing severe climate impacts, which projected to worsen future. At same time, country gripped by a crisis that overwhelming authorities communities hindering country's sustainable development goals. environment southern states Kerala Tamil Nadu vulnerable change. While these state governments stepping up efforts improve management zones, scale severity issues mounting. Here we review combined effects pollution Southern India, focusing Gulf Mannar Reserve Malabar Coast Kerala. Finally, discuss effective options could help resilience sustainability.

Cigarette butts (CB) and cigarette butt fibers (CBF) are highly abundant frequent residues on beach sand. Also, they hazardous waste due to their significant toxicity potential risk the ecosystems' biota health of tourists. This study aimed determine abundance density CB CBF found active, rest, service zones five pilot beaches in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico. The methodology involved collecting 500 m2 transects urban tourist using a citizen science-adapted between June 2021 May 2022, during COVID-19 pandemic. CBF, Butt Pollution Index (CBPI) were calculated. highest proportion was rest areas. Bocagrande (CO) reported generation severe CBPI.

Marine litter is a complex and multi-dimensional problem, with beach surveys being an important cost-effective tool for monitoring assessing marine pollution. In Madeira Island (Portugal, NE Atlantic), region awarded several times as 'Europe's Leading Destination' particular orography, there scarce understanding of the situation debris. A two-year (July 2020 to April 2022) macro-litter was conducted on two beaches in Funchal, largest city capital island. The abundance, composition, sources, pathways stranded were assessed following OSPAR guidelines. During years, total 14,265 items recorded. mean density found be 0.29 items/m2 beaches' clean index ranged between 'very clean' 'dirty'. Cigarette butts (30.9%) plastic objects (30.7%) most frequent items, followed by paper/cardboard (9.2%) metal (8.3%). composition showed that monitored debris has land-based source, strong contribution from smoking-related activities littering streams. By characterizing waste identifying its it possible propose integrated management actions at local level. Outreach raising awareness campaigns, together limit single-use stimulate circular economy, could contribute studied island but also other regions similar profiles.

This paper presents the first assessment of marine litter in Mogadishu coastal area Somalia.Samples were collected monthly using 100 m × 40 transect and classified following OSPAR Marine Litter Survey Form while sources identified Ocean Conservancy Debris Index. The results showed a total 119873 items consisting plastics (89.47%), clothing (7.53%), others (3.00%) recovered from Liido Beach. density ranged 2.19 items/m2 to 14.18 with mean 6.25 Clean Coast Index (CCI) suggesting that Beach is extremely dirty (>20 items/m2). In addition, primary at beach are local recreational shoreline activities 54.12%, dumping 36.61%, respectively. dominance plastic on poses potential threats biodiversity Somalia West Indian Ocean. It recommended effective strategies solutions mitigate other areas should be developed compensated public education awareness campaigns across country.
