Addressing the pervasive issue of food adulteration and fraud driven by economic interests has long presented a complex challenge. Such not only compromises safety supply chain destabilizes market economy but also poses significant risks to public health. Food encompasses practices such as substitution, process manipulation, mislabeling, introduction undeclared ingredients, genetically modified foods. Given diverse range deceptive methods employed, genomics-based identification techniques have increasingly been utilized for detecting adulteration. Compared traditional detection methods, technologies polymerase reaction (PCR), next-generation sequencing (NGS), high-resolution melt (HRM) analysis, DNA barcoding, CRISPR-Cas system demonstrated efficacy in accurately sensitively even trace amounts adulterants. This paper provides an overview approaches identifying adulteration, summarizes latest applications certification procedures, discusses current limitations, explores potential future trends, thereby offering new insights enhance control quality contributing development more robust regulatory frameworks policies.
