Antibiotics have received extensive attention due to their sophisticated effects on human health and ecosystems. However, there is an extreme scarcity of information composition, content, geographic distribution, risk riverine antibiotics at a large spatial scale. Based systematic review over 600 pieces literature (1999–2021), we established global dataset containing more than 90,000 records covering 169 metabolites in surface water sediment across 76 countries. The occurrence prioritized largely depended socioeconomic developmental levels, the current “hotspots” polluted rivers were found mostly less developed countries or emerging economies (e.g., some Africa, South America, Asia). By developing screening protocol for risk-based prioritization antibiotics, advanced rank list guiding formulation region-specific strategies, which highlighted importance whole life cycle management maintenance world’s rivers.

Pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) have been the focus of increasing concern in recent decades due to their ubiquity environment potential risks. Out-of-date PPCPs are usually discharged into municipal solid wastes (MSWs), enter leachates MSW landfills, serious adverse effects on surrounding water environment. However, occurrence removal from landfill rarely examined date. This lack knowledge makes an underestimated source In this review, we collected relevant publications leachates, systematically summarized globally, evaluated performances for various by different types on-site full-scale leachate treatment processes, assessed impacts adjacent groundwater. particular, influencing factors including physicochemical properties PPCPs, climate conditions, characteristics sites (i.e., ages) as well sociological economic development), were extensively discussed understand patterns. Future perspectives also proposed light identified gaps. To best our knowledge, is first review regarding worldwide.

Antibiotics are an increasing focus of interest due to their high detection frequency in the environment. However, presence water bodies is not regulated by environmental policies. This field study investigates, for first time, occurrence, behavior and fate a selection 53 antibiotics, including up 10 chemical groups, alluvial aquifer originated from manure application agricultural region using hydrogeological, hydrochemical isotopic approaches. Up 11 antibiotics were found groundwater corresponding 4 different groups: fluoroquinolones, macrolides, quinolones sulfonamides. In surface water, only 5 2 fluoroquinolones sulfonamides, quantified. The most frequent sulfamethoxazole ciprofloxacin. Concentrations order ng/L, with maximum concentrations 300ng/L groundwater. Hydrochemistry data geostatistics confirmed spatial trend observed nitrates, where nitrate tend be higher margin areas area, lower nearby river. On other hand, no clear continuous concentration was aquifer, supported short correlation variograms. indicates that physical-chemical properties processes each antibiotic (mainly, sorption degradation), issues, such as patchy diffuse input content itself, play important role distribution A discussion on estimation parameter reveals difficulties describing phenomena. Furthermore, retardation factors will extend over several orders magnitude, which highly affects movement individual within aquifer. To summarize, this points out associated research define resources quality management strategies regulations.
