This
paper
investigates
the
effectiveness

derivatives
removal
from
bird
organisms
via
claws

remiges,

preliminary
assessment
usefulness

Abstract
White
stork
nestlings
can
provide
quantitative
data
on
the
quality
of
environment,
as
they
are
dependent
their
parents
that
locally
foraged
food.
Blood
was
sampled
from
brachial
vein
(
n
=
109)
and
sampling
performed
in
parallel
with
ringing
during
breeding
season
2020
five
areas
eastern
Croatia:
Lonjsko
polje,
Jelas
Slavonski
Brod–east,
Podunavlje,
Donje
Podravlje.
In
present
study,
for
first
time
Croatia,
following
enzymatic
biomarkers
were
assessed
white
nestlings:
activities
acetylcholinesterase
(AChE),
carboxylesterase
(CES),
glutathione
S‐transferase
(GST),
reductase
(GR),
well
nonenzymatic
biomarkers:
levels
(GSH)
reactive
oxygen
species
(ROS).
All
endpoints
measured
two
blood
fractions:
plasma
a
postmitochondrial
fraction
(S9).
Nestlings
Podunavlje
Podravlje,
known
intensive
agriculture,
showed
lower
AChE
CES
activity
when
compared
to
other
investigated
areas,
indicating
presence
inhibitory
xenobiotics.
Higher
oxidative
stress
observed
an
area
surrounded
by
metal
engineering
industry,
areas.
Hence,
this
study
shows
impact
pollutants
surrounding
metal,
petroleum,
agricultural
industry
might
have
nestlings,
which
often
seen
early‐warning
signals.
