Weeds are the most severe and widespread biological constraint on agricultural production systems cause damage to cropped non-cropped lands. They reduce crop yield degrade quality of produce, besides raising cost production. The intensification agriculture in Green Revolution era attracted chemical fertilizers dwarf varieties coupled with mono-cropping irrigation practices, which enhanced crop-associated weeds use herbicides for easy control. Pesticides may kill many organisms, both target non-target species, environment, causing an imbalance ecosystem. Despite significant increase productivity, environmental repercussions industrial agriculture, characterized by high-yielding extensive application pesticides, have prompted a quest more sustainable practices worldwide. One potential alternative lies innovative approaches that draw upon ecological insights gleaned from studying natural ecosystems. These aim create “ecologically intensive” agro-ecosystems. Developing ecologically intensive agro-ecosystems necessitates deep understanding dynamics within ecosystems integration traditional knowledge held local farmers. Considering potentiality appropriate weed management technologies substantially improve there is opportunity development, popularization, adoption effective, economical, eco-friendly technologies.

Diamide insecticides, specifically chlorantraniliprole (CHL), have been rising in popularity over the past decade, becoming one of most widely used insecticide classes globally. These insecticides target ryanodine receptor (RyR), primarily for control lepidopteran agricultural pests. Field studies revealed that some species developed mutations where a methionine particular position (e.g., I4790M) increases resistance to CHL. The toxicity data CHL across is limited, as case many chemicals, which creates an opportunity apply both traditional test methods and new approach (NAMs) address gaps. Here, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Sequence Alignment Predict Across Species Susceptibility (SeqAPASS) tool was query RyR generate susceptibility predictions exposed fill those SeqAPASS results generated testable hypotheses were guide focused acute aquatic using Daphnia magna, pulex, Pimephales promelas, Danio rerio. fish not sensitive CHL, whereas D. magna pulex found be at environmentally relevant concentrations, despite having residue I4790M mutation. Abstract The aim of the present review was to give an overview current state science concerning herbicide exposure and toxicity aquatic primary producers. To this end we assessed open literature, revealing widespread presence (mixtures of) herbicides, inevitably leading non-target Yet, concentrations show strong temporal spatial variations. Concerning toxicity, it concluded that most sensitive as well least species differed per observed effect for some herbicides were rather independent from time. More extensive ecotoxicity testing is required, especially considering macrophytes marine toxicity. Hence, largest knowledge gap concerns effects sediment-associated on producers in marine/estuarine environment. Generally, there no actual risk waterborne Still, median atrazine diuron measured China, USA Europe represented moderate risks Maximum due misuse accidents may even cause exceedance almost 60% plotted SSDs. Using bioassays determine contaminated water sediment identify concern a promising addition chemical analysis, photosynthesis-inhibiting using photosynthesis endpoint bioassays. This come reliable hazard assessment, catch-up must be made macrophytes, environment overlooked understudied environmental compartments.

Abstract Herbicide use has increased very rapidly worldwide in recent decades, and some of these herbicides eventually enter the ocean. At present, herbicide pollution ocean become a global environmental problem. Here, field investigation 22 commonly used residues (triazine, phenylurea, amide) Bohai Sea Yellow Sea, we found that detection rate within 100 km from shore was 100%. Notably, triazine have reached concentrations (up to 12.07 nmol L −1 ) can significantly disturb phytoplankton bacterioplankton communities microcosm experiments. Under exposure at close their total situ concentrations, photosynthesis community inhibited, which reflected by significant decrease F v / m (28.7–63.8%) dissolved oxygen content (18.1–32.2%) seawater. Concurrently, structure underwent changes with dominant group shifting diatoms dinoflagellates, due higher atrazine sensitivity compared facultative dinoflagellates. Triazine also altered inhibited metabolism many carbon sources including carbohydrates, amino acids, carboxylic acids. As are closely related, impact on clearly aggravated community. In view significance supporting marine food webs biogeochemical cycles, continuous increase input future may seriously affect stability coastal oceans.
