Abstract Globally, phytoplankton abundance is increasing in lakes as a result of climate change and land‐use change. The relative importance drivers has been examined primarily for mesotrophic eutrophic lakes. However, oligotrophic show different sensitivity to than lakes, necessitating further exploration the contribution two increased abundance. Here, we investigated how air temperature (a driver related change) nutrient load interact alter water quality Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, USA. We used long‐term data one‐dimensional hydrodynamic General Model (GLM) coupled with Aquatic EcoDyanmics (AED) modules simulate quality. Over 31‐year simulation, summer median chlorophyll‐ concentration was positively associated temperature, whereas annual maximum previous 3 years external phosphorus load. Scenario testing demonstrated 2°C increase significantly concentration, but not concentration. For both doubling loads total nitrogen at same time, or alone, resulted significant increase. This study highlights aligning lake measurements ecosystem metrics interest, may be more uniquely sensitive that typical due warming alone.

This paper investigates climate change impacts on the hydrology and water quality of Brazilian semi-arid reservoirs. An integrated approach coupling climate, hydrological models was proposed. Five general circulation (GCMs) two future scenarios (SSP2-4.5 SSP5-8.5) were used for projections. The simulations showed that uncertainty in forecast significantly impacted outputs. Some revealed a strong decrease streamflow storage volume. On other hand, 40% multi-GCM projections indicated reservoir eutrophication. under SSP5-8.5 more significant than those SSP2-4.5. results also drought events may be prolonged change, principally at end 21st century SSP5-8.5, increase total phosphorus concentration. suggests tropical reservoirs could vulnerable to eutrophication regions.

Abstract. Long-term effects of climate change on lakes globally will include a substantial modification in the thermal regime and oxygen solubility lakes, resulting alteration ecosystem processes, habitats, concentrations critical substances. Recent efforts have led to development long-term model projections lake regimes solubility. However, such are hardly ever confronted with observations extending over multiple decades. Furthermore, global-scale forcing parameters models present several limitations, as need significant downscaling. In this study, were analyzed four largest French peri-alpine 1850–2100. We tested one-dimensional (1D) models' robustness for variations based up 63 years limnological data collected by Observatory LAkes (OLA). Here, we evaluate possibility mechanistic following evolution shortwave radiation air temperature while providing realistic seasonal trends other variables which local-scale downscaling often lacks accuracy. Model ensembles have several benefits compared to single-model applications but are not frequently used within the lake modelling community. Setting up and running multiple models can be challenging time consuming, despite many similarities between existing (forcing data, hypsograph, etc.). Here we present an R package, LakeEnsemblR, that facilitates of five different vertical one-dimensional hydrodynamic (FLake, GLM, GOTM, Simstrat, MyLake). The package requires input in a standardised format single configuration file. LakeEnsemblR formats these files required by each model, provides functions run calibrate models. outputs compiled into file, post-processing operations supported. LakeEnsemblR's workflow standardisation simplify model benchmarking uncertainty quantification, improve collaborations scientists. We showcase successful application for two lakes.

Regional climate plays an important role on in-lake physical and biogeochemical processes determines the state of water quality ecology lakes. This paper presents result a one-dimensional numerical modelling lake ice cover, temperature, as well nutrient phytoplankton dynamics in Lake 239 (Rawson Lake) located Experimental Lakes Area (ELA), Ontario, Canada. Using observed meteorological inflow/outflow data, Multi-year simulation model (MyLake) was setup to replicate measured ice-cover, dissolved organic carbon, particulate phosphorus, chlorophyll-a concentrations over entire depth lake. The sensitivity changes climatic drivers, specifically surface air temperature wind speed, examined by incrementally changing input forcing for speed mapping resulting simulated outputs. results show that are generally sensitive they temperature. Simulated variables corresponding projected Global Climate Models (GCMs) under RCP4.5 RCP8.5 emission scenarios reveal general increase decrease thickness cover duration climate. While increases at all depths, shallow epilimnion layer is more than deeper hypolimnion layer, reaching mean annual change value +3.7 °C RCP 8.5 2090s compared 1990s baseline period. reaches −20 cm scenario, ice-cover -47 days.
