In the late 1930s and early 1940s, it was discovered that substitution on aromatic rings of hydrogen atoms with chlorine yielded a novel chemistry antimicrobials. However, within few years, many these compounds formulations showed adverse effects, including human toxicity, ecotoxicity, unwanted environmental persistence bioaccumulation, quickly leading to regulatory bans phase-outs. Among these, triclocarban, polychlorinated antimicrobial agent, employed as major ingredient toys, clothing, food packaging materials, industry floors, medical supplies, especially personal care products, such soaps, toothpaste, shampoo. Triclocarban has been widely used for over 50 but only recently some concerns were raised about its endocrine disruptive properties. September 2016, U.S. Food Drug Administration banned use in over-the-counter hand body washes because toxicity. The withdrawal triclocarban prompted efforts search new several analogues have also studied. this review, an examination different facets will be analyzed.

Benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers (BUVSs) are high-production-volume chemicals with ubiquitous occurrence in the aquatic environment. However, little is known about their bioconcentration and biotransformation, physiologically based toxicokinetic (PBTK) models for BUVSs lacking. This study selected six which experiments were performed zebrafish (Danio rerio) exposed to two different levels (0.5 10 μg·L–1). Ultraviolet absorbents (UVAs) and industrial antioxidants (IAs) are contaminants of emerging concern. In this study, we investigated the distribution partitioning these in surface water, suspended particulate matter (SPM), sediment, various tissues lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) northern pike (Esox lucius) from St. Lawrence River (SLR), Quebec, Canada. Results indicated that 2,6-di-tert-butyl-1,4-benzoquinone (BHTQ) was dominant contaminant dissolved phase with median concentrations 43, 15, 123 ng/L for three sampling sites, respectively. Surface water collected downstream a major city showed higher levels UVAs, BHTQ, diphenylamine compared to upstream, suggesting influence urban activities on contamination SLR. SPM greater sorption capacities most target those sediment. Different profiles were found pike, implying accumulation UVAs IAs fish depends their feeding behavior. The field-based tissue-specific bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) frequently detected (log BAF 1.5-4.2) generally comparable or lower than Estimation Program Interface modeling results (1.4-5.0), indicating some may be less bioaccumulative previously expected.
