Phthalate esters (PAEs) are normally used as plasticizers and has potential to leach out from various polymeric materials. Their presence in different environmental matrices become a significant concern, they endocrine disrupting compounds causing reproductive, genetical, developmental abnormalities. As result, it is urgent develop robust technology that can mineralize these contaminants the environment. This review focuses on origin fate of PAEs environment, their exposure routes health effects, remediation strategies wastewater. The article largely in-depth understanding physicochemical, biological advanced oxidation processes currently being for treatment PAEs. In addition, based physicochemical properties molecules, adsorption interaction mechanisms with adsorbents introduced. also explores range materials be an adsorbent photocatalyst composite enhance performance by followed mineralization. For large scale removal, semiconductor photocatalysis integrated seems effective technique removal mineralization Finally, scaling up photocatalytic technology, parameters such as, improved reactor design, role water matrix economic aspects were discussed future research directions catalyst agglomeration, modification, synthesis proposed. Abstract Phthalic acid esters are emerging pollutants, commonly used as plasticizers that categorized hazardous endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). A rise in anthropogenic activities leads to an increase phthalate concentration the environment which various adverse environmental effects and health issues humans other aquatic organisms. This paper gives overview of research related ester contamination degradation methods by conducting a bibliometric analysis with VOS Viewer. Ecotoxicity requires understanding current status pollution, impacts, exposure routes, their sources. review covers five toxic phthalates, occurrences environment, toxicity studies, biodegradation pathways.
