ABSTRACT This paper updates previous assessments of the environmental impacts associated with using crop biotechnology (specifically genetically modified crops) in global agriculture. It focuses on changes pesticide use and greenhouse gas emissions arising from GM crops since their first widespread commercial 22 years ago. The adoption insect resistant herbicide tolerant technology has reduced spraying by 775.4 million kg (8.3%) and, as a result, decreased impact insecticide these (as measured indicator, Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ)) 18.5%. also facilitated important cuts fuel tillage changes, resulting significant reduction release cropping area. In 2018, this was equivalent to removing 15.27 cars roads.

Tillage is one of the agricultural management practices that significantly impacts agroecosystems, crop production, and environment. Conventional tillage (CT) alter soil environment induce organic constituents’ decomposition emission greenhouse gases (GHGs), which contribute to effect global warming. Low matter, biological diversity, aggregate stability, high erosion degradation environment, sequestration strength are additional factors associated with CT, negatively affect food security environmental sustainability. As a result, CT no more beneficial in long run; consequently, zero (ZT) could be viable candidate for sustainable agriculture. The review establish this systematically compared summarized systems (i.e. ZT) by synthesizing interpreting published data (>150 peer-reviewed articles) >200 observations on ecosystem services properties/agroecosystem, yield/food security, GHG emission, carbon sequestration/environmental resilience. established ZT improves structure, matter nutrients, water use efficiency, reduces degradation, erosion, machinery impacts, emissions. It allows timely seeding better growth, increases yield sequestration, strengthens storage potential, helps mitigate adverse effects climate change Based various latent direct indirect benefits, resource-saving ability, broad adoption scope ZT, it corroborated practical potential approach improved agroecosystem,

This paper assesses how the use of genetically modified seed (GM) crop technology has impacted on greenhouse gas emissions at a global level. The main technologies relevance are crops to be tolerant specific herbicides so as facilitate improved weed control and resistant range insect pests that otherwise damage or typically require application insecticides them. Over 24 year period examined 2020, widespread GM herbicide led important cuts in on-farm fuel facilitated farmers moving from plow-based systems reduced no tillage they have continued operate for number years. significant reduction release cropping area, which 2020 was equal saving 23,631 million kg carbon dioxide, equivalent taking 15.6 cars off road (equal 49% registered UK).
