Abstract Heavy metal pollution in freshwater ecosystems is a serious threat to aquatic organisms. Species of Megaloptera are important predators invertebrates and have been widely used as bioindicators assessing the quality ecosystems. In this study, we determined differential gene expression profile Protohermes costalis (Walker) (Megaloptera: Corydalidae) response cadmium (Cd) exposure by using transcriptome analysis. A total 60,627 unigenes were obtained transcriptomes 150 mg/liter (PL), 1,000 (PH) CdCl2 treatment, no Cd control (PC). Differential (DEG) analysis pairwise comparison identified 2,794 DEGs after filtering noninsect genes repetitive counts. 606 shared comparisons PL versus PC PH PC, with 165 consistently up-regulated 441 down-regulated both PH. Six heat shock proteins (HSPs) HSP70 family P. PcosHSP68 was Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) confirmed that levels higher than 31 197%, respectively. These results showed altered profiles data presented study provide insight into future studying on molecular mechanisms toxicity these insects.

Phthalate esters (PEs) are by far the most produced and extensively used synthetic organic chemicals with notable applications in many industrial products such as vinyl upholstery, adhesives, food containers, packaging materials, printing inks, cosmetics, paints, pharmaceuticals munitions, insecticides among other. PEs have long been recognised ubiquitous pollutants of prime environmental concern, urbanisation amongst main cause source these compounds. Due to their notoriety, compounds known pose devastating effects living organisms including humans. The presence metabolites aquatic ecosystems is concern primarily due endocrine disrupting carcinogenicity properties. Several research studies reported prevalence, exposure pathways, toxicity, impacts Their principal routes could be direct or indirect, which route include contact, eating, drinking contaminated foods, indirect constitute aerosols, leaching other forms contamination. find way into water systems through means effluent discharges, urban agricultural land runoff, from waste dumps diffuse sources. High-end instrumentation improved methodologies on hand resulted increased ability measure trace levels (μg/L) different matrices ecological compartments lakes, oceans, rivers, sediments, wetlands samples. In light above, this article provides an informed focused information prevalence phthalate related Furthermore, techniques that enabled extraction analysis samples also explained. Future outlooks needs highlighted manuscript. This will better understand temporal spatial distributions aid devising prudent curtail footprints.

Tyre and road wear particles (TRWPs) are a significant yet often underestimated source of environmental pollution, contributing to the accumulation microplastics complex mixture contaminants in both terrestrial aquatic ecosystems. Despite their prevalence, long-term evolutionary effects TRWPs, beyond immediate toxicity, remain largely unknown. In this study, we assessed mutagenicity non-biting midge Chironomus riparius, upon exposure urban sediment collected from runoff sedimentation basin. To assess extent mutagenic over multiple generations, combined model with short-term mutation lines (MALs) subsequent whole genome sequencing (WGS). The study was conducted five concentrations 0.5 % 10 %. Our results reveal that significantly increases rates compared control groups by 50 %, independent concentration (0.5 %). infer potential causal processes, comparative analysis using known mutational spectra previous studies. This comparison showed profiles induced clearly clustered those caused Benzo[a]Pyrene (BaP), Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH). A comprehensive chemical characterization confirmed considerable impact traffic-related contamination, including PAHs primarily petrogenic origin. suggests PAH-like compounds present sediments may play role observed effects. shows influence alter exposed organisms, potentially compromising genomic stability shaping trajectories. These genetic changes can have profound on population dynamics ecosystem health, underlining importance understanding consequences pollution. Additionally, show comparatively analysing provide valuable insights into processes.

Abstract Background The black soldier fly ( Hermetia illucens ) is gaining attention as an efficient decomposer of food waste. However, recalcitrant compounds such plastics mixed into waste may have negative effects on its growth and survival. Moreover, efficiency degradation also be affected by plastics. In addition, salt (NaCl) can present in high concentrations, which reduces the H . -mediated treatment. this study, we assessed larvae (BSFL) reared containing polyethylene (PE) polystyrene (PS) NaCl. weight BSFL was measured every 2–4 days. Survival substrate reduction rates pupation ratio were determined at end experiment. Results total larval PS greater than that control days 20 24. survival rate lower group treated with 5% PS, all PS-treated groups. PE day 6. did not affect rate, but increased consumption decreased increasing concentrations. Regardless plastic type, addition NaCl resulted ratio. Conclusions Larval inhibited salinity. Additional safety assessments impurities are needed to enable wider application vermicomposting.
