This paper proposes a new computational model to predict the earth pressure balance (EPB) shield performance during tunnelling. The proposed integrates an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) with adaptive neurofuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based on fuzzy C-mean (FCM) clustering method. In particular, uses operational parameters as inputs and computes advance rate output. Prior modeling, critical are identified through principle component analysis (PCA). hybrid is applied prediction of in tunnel section Guangzhou Metro Line 9 China. results indicate that PSO-ANFIS shows high accuracy predicting EPB terms multiobjective fitness function [i.e. root mean square error (RMSE) = 0.07, coefficient determination (R 2 ) 0.88, variance account (VA) 0.84 for testing datasets, respectively]. good agreement between actual measurements predicted values demonstrates promising accuracy.

Severe flood events in the trans-boundary Shatt Al-Arab basin (Iraq-Iran) claim hundreds of human lives and cause damage to economy environment. Therefore, developing a hazard model recognize basin's susceptible areas flooding is important for decision makers comprehensive risk management. The map was prepared using geographical information systems (GIS) multi-criteria analysis (MCDA) along with application analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method identify optimal selection weights factors that contribute risk. causative used this study were rainfall, distance river, digital elevation (DEM), slope, land use/land cover (LULC), drainage density, soils, lithology. derived consisted four distinct categories (zones). These zones depict high, intermediate, low, very low around 20%, 40%, 39%, 2% area, respectively. produced further verified historical event area. results found be consistent data events, revealing model's effectiveness realistic representation mapping.

When pumping is conducted in confined aquifer inside excavation pit (waterproof curtain), the direction of groundwater seepage outside changes from horizontal to vertical owing existence curtain barrier. There no analytical calculation method for head distribution induced by dewatering excavation. This paper first analyses mechanism blocking effects a close barrier aquifer.
