Abstract Biochar shows significant potential to serve as a globally applicable material remediate water and soil owing the extensive availability of feedstocks conducive physio-chemical surface characteristics. This review aims highlight biochar production technologies, characteristics biochar, latest advancements in immobilizing eliminating heavy metal ions organic pollutants water. Pyrolysis temperature, heat transfer rate, residence time, type feedstock are critical influential parameters. The current water crisis necessitates the development of new materials for wastewater treatment. A variety nanomaterials are continuously being investigated their potential as adsorbents environmental remediation. Researchers intend to develop a low-cost, simple, and sustainable material that can cater removal pollutants. Biochar derived from biowaste is candidate existing problem pollution. review focuses on various aspects biochar, such its sources, preparation methods, mechanism, applications treatment, regeneration.
