Acoustic experiences of nature represent a growing area in restorative environments research and are explored this narrative literature review. First, the work surveyed indicates that is broadly characterized by sounds birdsong, wind, water, these can enhance positive perceptions natural presented through visual means. Second, isolated from other sensory modalities often, although not always, positively affectively appraised perceived as restorative. Third, after stress and/or fatigue soundscapes lead to subjectively objectively improved mood cognitive performance, well reductions arousal, some inconsistencies findings observed. Fourth, theoretical frameworks would benefit inclusion acoustic environmental properties such sound intensity or frequency. Fifth, regarding positive, learned semantic associations with have arisen result recent on restoration. This represents another important potential development for broader research.

Abstract Green space matters for mental health but is under constant pressure in an increasingly urbanising world. Often there little available cities green areas, so it vital to optimise the design and usage of these spaces. To achieve this, experts planning, nature conservation need know which types characteristics spaces are most beneficial residents' health. A scoping review studies that compare different on was conducted. total 215 (experimental, observational qualitative) papers were included review. This highlights a high level heterogeneity study design, geographical locations, outcomes measures. Few specifically designed enable direct comparisons between (e.g. parks forests). The have predominantly experimental research designs looking at effects short‐term exposure affect physiological stress). More enabled only indirect comparisons, either within same or studies. Analysis direction (positive, neutral, negative) from various found positive (i.e. beneficial) across all types. However, did appear render more diverse health, especially case vegetation higher density can be negative health). reveals gaps present evidence base, with specific directly comparing study. The health and well-being benefits of green space over gray have been widely recognized. However, the congruence effect implies that outcome environmental exposure is influenced by one's psychological relationship with environment. This study conducted a two-factor mixed-design experiment college students (n = 68) to investigate moderating factor nature connectedness (NC) on short-term one urban two low- high-biodiversity spaces after completing demanding tasks. Environmental was simulated through 10-minute audio–video clips in laboratory setting. findings suggest low-NC individuals adapt because they reported neutral positive results emotional valence eudaimonic experience. Additionally, actively engaged information for longer duration, as indicated frequency skin conductance responses. Consequently, lack urgency escape from although benefit more space. Conversely, high-NC tend seek out "shelter" areas, are vulnerable ambient noise experience significantly better outcomes Our elucidate previously found between NC visitation, while also emphasizing need comprehend role value biodiversity an perspective.

In an increasingly urbanized world, urban biodiversity is people's primary contact with nature. However, as cities expand and densify, green blue spaces their are under pressure, risking declines in liveability. We could: recognize, measure, value, and market those contributions; analyze components design products maximize health benefits; use benefits in tourism industry marketing lobbying. If we measure health-research standards, then could also gain commercial opportunities within the sector. Currently, there are widely differing bodies of evidence different subsectors, reflecting historical research emphases. Music, museums, shopping malls have been identified as therapeutic for some. Nature therapies tested extensively, with a higher standard evidence. Adventure has analyzed principally from phenomenological perspective, indicating powerful psychological effects. Urban regeneration of urban green and blue spaces (UGBS) is assumed to benefit residents' mental wellbeing. However, the mechanistic pathways linking UGBS wellbeing before vs. after remain unclear. This study assessed mediating roles subjective perceptions environment instoration indicators (social capital physical activity) proximity along Connswater Community Greenway (CCG) in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK. Repeated cross-sectional household survey data were collected from adult residents who lived within a ≤1-mile radius CCG pre-intervention (2010/2011; n = 866) six months post implementation (2016/2017; 866). The intervention involved development an greenway which included 19 km new improved cycle paths walkways, improvements (e.g., planting trees shrubs) coupled with social programs organized walking groups). Mental was using Warwick-Edinburgh Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), exposure measured as distance home address nearest access point. Subjective attractiveness, traffic, amenities, perceived safety. Instoration activity, trust, networks. Structural equation models differential between implementation. Results offered no significant support for notion that impacted intervention. In contrast, intervention, indirectly directly associated Mediating amenities positively impacting safety trust. These findings provide evidence influences through multiple including changing people's promoting greenway.
