Abstract Globally, waste disposal options such as landfill, incineration, and discharge to water, are not preferred long-term solutions due their social, environmental, political, economic implications. However, there is potential for increasing the sustainability of industrial processes by considering land application wastes. Applying can have beneficial outcomes including reducing sent landfill providing alternative nutrient sources agriculture other primary production. also hazards, environmental contamination. This article reviewed literature on applications soils assessed associated hazards benefits. The review investigated wastes in relation soil characteristics, dynamics between constituents, possible impacts plants, animals, humans. current body demonstrates into agricultural soils. main challenge applying presence contaminants some managing these enhance positive effects reduce negative within acceptable limits. Examination revealed several gaps research opportunities further investigation: specifically, a lack experiments mass balance assessments, variable composition, public opinion.
