Antibiotics are used for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes in both human veterinary medicine as growth promoting agents farms aquaculture. They can accumulate environmental matrices the food chain, causing adverse effects humans animals including development of antibiotic resistance. This review aims to update discuss available data on residues, using bivalves biomonitoring organisms. The current research indicates that antibiotics’ presence has been investigated along European, American Asian coasts, with majority studies reported last. Several classes antibiotics have detected, a higher frequency detection macrolides, sulfonamides quinolones. highest concentration was instead tetracyclines collected North Adriatic Sea. Only oxytetracycline levels detected this latter site exceeded maximum residual limit established by competent authorities. Alkaline substances could activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the removal of organic pollutants, but relatively high alkali consumption is generally required, which can cause too pH solution after reaction and lead to secondary pollution. Within this study, PMS activated by a low dosage Ca(OH)2 (1 mM) exhibited excellent efficiency in bisphenol S (BPS). The declined almost neutral (pH = 8.2) during period conformed direct emission standards 6-9). Bisphenols and benzophenone UV filters are contaminants present in a wide variety of plastic materials consumer products. The scientific attention towards these has increased recent years due to their presence microplastics, ubiquitous occurrence the environment, known endocrine disrupting health effects. In this study, nine bisphenol five UV-filter analogues was assessed wild brown mussels (Perna perna) collected from different sampling sites along coast Algoa Bay, South Africa. Eleven out fourteen target analytes were detected, AP (BPAP) detected for first time mussels, presenting highest median concentration 150 ng g-1 dry weight (d.w.) detection frequency 91%. Regarding UV-filters, concentrations (across all sites) ranged 2.01 10.6 d.w., with benzophenone-1 (BzP-1) benzophenone-3 (BzP-3) concentrations. Human exposure by estimating daily intakes (EDI) through mussel consumption. To our knowledge, is study African continent on bisphenols UV-filters large population (n=138) mussels.
