Invasive alien mammals cause huge adverse ecological impact on human society and natural ecosystems. Although studies have estimated economic costs of mammal invasions at regional scales, there is lacking the large-scale comprehensive assessment currency for this taxon. Here, we cost invasive a global scale using most database compiling species (InvaCost). From 1960 to 2021, caused (summing damage management costs) US$ 462.49 billion economy, while total amount robust reached 52.49 billion. The majority corresponded (90.27 %), only 7.43 % were related cost. Economic showed an increasing trend over time. distribution was uneven among taxonomic groups regions, with highly biasing toward 5 (European rabbit, Domestic cat, Black rat, Wild boar Coypu), North America reporting much higher (60.78 than other regions. borne by agriculture, environment, authorities stakeholders sectors. Beetles are commonly moved among continents with international trade. Baited traps set up in and around entry points used to increase chances of early-detection incoming species complement visual inspections. A still underestimated benefit this surveillance approach is the high number diversity collected bycatch species. In study, we exploited a multiyear program carried out baited at five Spanish ports their surrounding natural areas investigate i) importance identifying more promptly detect nonnative belonging non-target groups; ii) patterns native richness abundance inside port vs. areas; iii) occurrence spillover events between areas, iv) whether most introduced into other countries abundant than areas. total 23,538 individuals from 206 representing 33 families were collected. The taxonomic 26 beetle testified that identification these unintentionally trapped can provide additional information on ongoing invasions. Aquatic invasive plants (AIPs) are a global threat to local biodiversity due their rapid adaptation the new environments. Lythrum salicaria, commonly known as purple loosestrife, is predominant AIP in upper Midwestern region of United States and has been designated deadly wetlands this region. Accurate estimation its current extent top priority, but regular monitoring limited cost-, labor-, time-intensive field surveys. Therefore, goal present study accurately detect loosestrife from very high-resolution UAV imagery using deep neural network-based models. As case study, implemented U-Net LinkNet models with ResNet-152 encoder Mississippi River situated La Crosse County, Wisconsin. The results showed that both produced 88–94% training accuracy performed better landscapes were occupied by smaller, disaggregated, more equitably distributed loosestrife. Furthermore, adopted transfer learning approach implement trained model first site it for second site. pre-trained implementation generated less than half time original model. approach, if adapted efficiently, can be highly beneficial continuous strategic planning application direct biocontrol measures.

Abstract The presence of alien species represents a major cause habitat degradation and biodiversity loss worldwide, constituting critical environmental challenge our time. Despite sometimes experiencing reduced propagule pressure, leading to genetic diversity an increased chance inbreeding depression, invaders are often able thrive in the habitats introduction, giving rise so‐called “genetic paradox” biological invasions. adaptation new is therefore complex aspect invasions, encompassing genetic, epigenetic, ecological processes. Albeit numerous studies reviews investigated mechanistic foundation invaders' success, aimed solve paradox, still remains crucial oversight regarding temporal context which takes place. Given profound knowledge management implications, this neglected invasion biology should receive more attention when examining ability introduction. Here, we discuss mechanisms exhibited by with purpose highlighting timing their occurrence during process. We analyze each stage separately, providing evidence that play role all them. However, these vary across different stages invasion, also influenced other factors, such as transport speed, reproduction type invader, human interventions. Finally, provide insights into implications for management, identify gaps, suggesting avenues future research can shed light on adaptability. This, turn, will contribute comprehensive understanding

Invasive species significantly impact ecosystems, which is fostered by global warming. Their removal generates high costs to the greenery managers; therefore, quick and accurate identification methods can allow action be taken with minimal on ecosystems. Remote sensing techniques such as Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) have been widely applied for this purpose. However, many of invasive plants, Acer negundo L., penetrate forests under leaves thus make recognition difficult. The strongly contaminated riverside in Vistula valley were examined gradient center Warsaw beyond its limits within a Natura 2000 priority habitat (91E0), namely, alluvial willow poplars. Current control methods for invasive alien plants (IAPs) have acceptable short-term outcomes but proven to be unfeasible or unaffordable in the long-term large invaded areas. For these reasons, there is an urgent need develop sustainable approaches restrict spread of aggressive IAPs. The use waste derived from IAP actions could contribute motivating management and preservation local biodiversity while promoting some economic returns stakeholders. However, this strategy may raise concerns that should carefully addressed before its implementation. In article, we summarize most common IAPs, explaining their viability limitations. We also compile potential applications residues discuss risks opportunities associated with strategy.

Invasive species threaten natural ecosystems globally, displacing native and causing biodiversity loss. In coastal areas with Mediterranean climate around the world, iceplant (Carpobrotus edulis) has become highly invasive, forming large monospecific zones that compete for resources plant species, including threatened or endangered species. Despite widespread impact of across a climate, there is no precise information on where it how much spread.
