Aquaculture sector plays important role for the economic development in Malaysia, but environmental concerns are arising due to pollution caused by discharge of untreated wastewater.Coagulation-flocculation-sedimentation is currently best practice aquaculture wastewater treatment. This research aims compare performance chemical-based (alum) and bio-based (neem leaves) coagulants treating effluent while also studying feasibility.Alum showed higher removal efficiencies total suspended solid (99.7%), turbidity (98.8%), color (97.3%), neem coagulant a lower dosage needed achieve optimum performance. The cost included capital operational costs, benefit potential water reuse reclaimed valuable products from sludge. The net profit reveals negative values both scenarios, cost-benefit ratio 0 0.06 alum coagulants, respectively. These indicated that scenarios not feasible gain economical profit, utilization present sludge utilization.A deeper analysis using Social Return on Investment (SROI) method suggested include non-traditional calculation such as social scenarios.

Abstract The aquaculture industry is rapidly developing, generating a high amount of wastewater. Inland effluents contain nutrients and other substances that can cause eutrophication the emergence resistive organisms if released into environment. Hence, wastewater should be treated appropriately for reuse in different applications or safely environment, promoting sustainable circular economy. current review provides insight generation, constituents, treatment through various technologies. This study’s technologies could classified as physical, chemical, biological. SWOT analysis was conducted on each technology to provide an in-depth understanding advantages drawbacks. The growing problem of industrial pollution in developing countries, especially Ethiopia, has sparked serious issues about the quality water, particularly when it comes to effluent from wet coffee processing industries. In response, this study investigates potential utilizing natural coagulants, Acanthus sennii C., Moringa stenopetala B., and Aloe vera L., either individually or combination, for treatment effluent. Methodologically, systematically varies operational parameters, including coagulant dose, pH levels, stirring speed, time, evaluate their impact on coagulation efficiency. Experimental data undergo statistical analysis, employing ANOVA, while computational optimization techniques are employed using Design Expert software determine optimal conditions. Notably, blended form three coagulants emerges as promising, yielding conditions 0.750 g/L dosage, 8.76, agitation speed 80.73 rpm, time 19.23 min. Under these optimized conditions, achieves remarkable removal efficiencies, approximately 99.99% color 98.7% turbidity. These findings underscore efficiency form, sustainable wastewater processing.

The ability of mixed neem, cassava, and wild betel plant leaves to act as plant-based coagulants was tested in real aquaculture wastewater through the coagulation-flocculation process. performance coagulant (PBC) compared with that chemical (alum) observe removal efficiency turbidity, TSS, color, COD. Ratio, a new approach, used by selecting TSS an indicator or index substitute for dosage term calculated based on simplified equation. extracted medium these prepared using water extraction. Initial characterizations showed PBC had some carbon amine groups (as also confirmed LC-MS) average zeta potential –22.83 ± 0.62 mV. Results indicated both (plant-based coagulants) successfully removed measured polluted parameters turbidity (85.17 %), (80.28 color (59.42 COD (54.63 %) 0.79 mg/L mass 3.94 mg, while alum gained higher (99.08 (98.71 (97.29 (75.31 698.4 349.2 respectively. The batik industry has been one of the main family businesses in most east-coast region Malaysian peninsula for many years. However, appropriate water treatment is still a major challenge this industry. Stringent laws introduced by authorities and intention to protect environment are factors that drive researchers search suitable, appropriate, affordable efficient wastewater. Treatment research on wastewater lacking coagulation-flocculation using alum was chosen as stepping stone toward selection green coagulants. This study aimed determine best conditions flocculation-coagulation standard jar test method. Four were investigated: dosage (0.1-3.5 g/L), pH (4-11), settling time (0.5-24 h) rapid mixing rate (100-300 rpm). Results obtained further analysed statistically SPSS software prior determining significant effect variable changes. From study, process found be at 1.5 g/L, 8, 4 h 100 rpm. Chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity, colour total suspended solids (TSS) removed 70.7, 92.2, 88.4 100%, respectively, under these conditions. showed can treated chemical means alum. indicates need forthcoming developments natural-based-coagulant-flocculants sustainability
