Coastal aquaculture is an important supply of animal proteins for human consumption, which expanding globally. Meanwhile, extensive may increase nutrient loadings and environmental concerns along the coast. Accurate information on pond location essential coastal management. Traditional methods use morphological parameters to characterize geometry surface waters differentiate artificially constructed conventional ponds from other water bodies. However, there are bodies with similar morphology (e.g., saltworks, rice fields, small reservoirs) that difficult distinguish ponds, causing a lot omission/commissioning errors in areas complex land-use types. Here, we develop extraction method shape quality map including three steps: (1) Sharpen normalized difference index detect binarize pixels by Otsu method; (2) Connect independent into objects through four-neighbor connectivity algorithm; (3) Calculate features input them classifier supervised classification. We selected eight sites coast China evaluate accuracy generalization our environment heterogeneous landscape. Till present, natural wetlands have been continuously subjected to intensive pollution stress in recent years, mainly because of the rapidly growing industrialization and urbanization that are associated with a myriad anthropogenic activities land use practices. These man-made sources change chemical properties wetlands, which turn alter their microbial ecological biodiversity functions. For first time, impact current practices on Blesbokspruit wetland status consequential effect structure functions were investigated. Sites high intensity identified using geographic information systems mapping (GISMapping) microbiome functional profile studied through throughput shotgun metagenomics sequencing analysis. The prevalence and fate of microplastics in macrophytes are insufficiently understood, data on the abundance microplastic (MP) accumulation macrophyte ecosystems urgently needed to fill this knowledge gap. main objectives study were quantify characterize that accumulate macrophytes, associated sediments, water Negombo Lagoon, Sri Lanka. investigation was conducted with specialized sampling extraction techniques. Microplastics detected by fluorescence tagging polymers using Nile red, polymer identification ATR-µFTIR ATR-FTIR. This revealed variations across different species. Gracilaria sp. had a higher 9 ± 3 items g−1 wet weight, followed Chaetomorpha at 8 weight Halodule pinifolia 6 1 weight. root surfaces these species slightly similar levels abundance. Nevertheless, samples contained fragments size range 50–150 μm. comprehensive contributes expanding our awareness regarding influence pollution ecosystems.

Introduction Identifying patterns in the primary limiting nutrients of basal trophic levels such as benthic algae can inform prediction potential ecological responses to anthropogenic nutrient loading. In coastal wetlands Laurentian Great Lakes, reduced concentrations reactive nitrogen species ammonium and nitrate may limit algal growth, especially when loading is minimal. However, response macronutrient inputs remains understudied, Lake Superior wetlands. Methods We conducted amendment assays using diffusing substrate devices 25 along southwestern shore spring, summer, fall. These allowed us investigate seasonal regional variation limitation status relationship between limitation, situ water quality (dissolved total phosphorus, temperature, dissolved oxygen, specific conductivity, suspended solids), watershed land use. Results found that was common, particularly during with 60% exhibiting this condition, while phosphorus not observed any wetland season. The strongest N Apostle Islands National Lakeshore where cover almost entirely natural. Wetlands more developed watersheds, including those St. Louis River Estuary, had a lower degree ( p = 0.003). Nitrogen fall, but most pronounced summer. Discussion findings suggest predominates these wetlands, contrasting well-documented lake's pelagic zone. Our study also highlights for stimulate excessive growth regions. are consistent other regions Lakes support need continued monitoring targeted mitigation both shoreline habitats large lakes.
