RoundUp® (RUp) is a comercial formulation containing glyphosate (N-(phosphono-methyl) glycine), and the world’s leading wide-spectrum herbicide used in agriculture. Supporters of broad use glyphosate-based herbicides (GBH) claim they are innocuous to humans, since active compound acts on inhibition enzymes which absent human cells. However, neurotoxic effects GBH have already been shown many animal models. Further, these formulations were disrupt microbiome different species. Here, we investigated lifelong exposure low doses GBH-RUp gut environment, including morphological changes. We also aimed determine whether could harm developing brain lead behavioral changes adult mice. To this end, animals exposed drinking water from pregnancy adulthood. GBH-RUp-exposed mice had no cognitive function, but developed impaired social behavior increased repetitive behavior. GBH-Rup-exposed showed an activation phagocytic cells (Iba-1–positive) cortical tissue. caused mucus production infiltration plama (CD138-positive), with reduction Long-term induced intestinal integrity, as demonstrated by altered expression tight junction effector proteins (ZO-1 ZO-2) change distribution syndecan-1 proteoglycan. The led composition, crucial for establishment barrier. Altogether, our findings suggest that long-term leads functional gut, correlate similar those observed patients neurodevelopmental disorders.

Pregnancy and infancy are vulnerable times for detrimental environmental exposures. However, the exposure situation of microplastics (MPs) mother-infant pairs adverse health effect MPs largely unknown. Therefore, we explored MP in placentas meconium samples, potential correlation with microbiota meconium. A total 18 were effectively recruited from Shanghai, China. The study required pregnant women to provide samples. An Agilent 8700 laser infrared imaging spectrometer (LDIR) was applied identify MPs. Microbiota detection identified by 16S rRNA sequencing. Sixteen types found all matrices, polyamide (PA) polyurethane (PU) major identified. detected samples a size 20-50 μm more than 76.46%. At phylum level, both placenta mainly composed Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota, Firmicutes. We also some significant differences between β-diversity gut composition. Additionally, polystyrene inversely related Chao index microbiota. Polyethylene consistently correlated several genera MPs, PA, PU impacted In conclusion, ubiquitous indicating wide infants. Moreover, our findings may support link high concentration there associations particle 50-100

Abstract Glyphosate (GLY), the most widely used herbicide active ingredient (AI) in world, is frequently detected aquatic environments where it can affect non-target organisms. Globally, more than 2000 commercial GLY-based herbicides (GBHs) are to control weeds. Non-target organisms exposed complex pesticide formulations under real environmental conditions, but co-formulants contained GBHs classified as so-called inert and inactive ingredients terms of their biological effects. The main objective this comprehensive review compile results ecotoxicological studies on side-effects GLY, GBHs, formulating agents. Based demonstrated for a variety plant animal organisms, oxidative stress appears be major trigger these adverse effects, affecting integrity DNA other biochemical functions. Furthermore, there evidence impairment various physiological behavioral Adverse effects GLY have been observed even at very low concentrations. There also differences sensitivity tested, with similar lifestyles, habitats or identical taxa. typically investigate short-term single exposure GLY/GBH species, whilst reality multiple applications together pesticides common during cropping cycle. Moreover, interactions between GLY/GBHs contaminants rarely studied. Higher toxicity compared alone has often observed, demonstrating that highly toxic own markedly increase GBH formulation. possible impurities such heavy metals, cause additional problems environment food safety. widespread massive use leads increased hazards. In addition, need revision risk assessment system emphasized. According studies, current pollution by problematic cannot considered environmentally sustainable. It is, therefore, necessary least tighten permitted forms use.

Microplastic pollution has become an increasingly important environmental issue worldwide in recent years because of its ubiquitous presence different media and potential to affect the health organisms ecosystems. Aquaculture contributes significantly world's food production nutritional supply, especially developing countries. Widespread occurrence microplastics aquaculture systems raised great concern regarding safety issues products. China is a world leader production, with freshwater accounting for 59.1% total 2020. Therefore, this review mainly focuses on research progress related microplastic China. Results from literature show that are present at abundances comparable natural waterbodies Microplastics can be ingested remain body Exposure adversely aquatic ecosystem functions. However, risks real environment uncertain. Consumption products not major pathway human exposure microplastics. To provide scientific guidance governmental decision-making control, future work should focus toxicological methodology understanding impacts community levels.
