Understanding the complex interactions between urbanization and ecosystem services (ESs) is crucial for optimizing planning policies achieving sustainable urban management. While previous research has largely focused on highly urbanized areas, little attention been given to phased effect of progressive ES networks. Ecosystem services (ESs) are crucial for sustainable development, as they impact human well-being. However, changes in land use/land cover (LULC) caused by climate change and social development can negatively affect ESs, particularly arid river basins. This study focuses on current future LULC the Kaxghar River Basin (KRB) Xinjiang, China, to determine how these will region’s ESs. The integrated PLUS-InVEST model was used investigate spatiotemporal distribution changing patterns of habitat quality (HQ) carbon storage (CS) under natural increase scenario (NIS), economic (EDS), water protection (WPS). Additionally, Service Contribution Index (ESCI) also calculated evaluate contribution results show following: (1) from 2000 2020, average value HQ KRB gradually decreased 0.54 0.49 CS trended slightly upward, with a total 0.07 × 106 t. Furthermore, were highly consistent LULC. (2) From 2020 2030, area low-grade (0–0.2) saw continuous increase, fastest growth occurring 2030 EDS. The ecological conservation red line (ECRL) framework plays an increasingly important role in biodiversity practices China. Following the implementation of ECRL, it is essential to systematically assess effectiveness this national policy mitigating negative impacts human disturbances on habitat quality at landscape and regional levels. Combined with remote sensing ground survey data, Integrated Valuation Ecosystem Services Trade-off (InVEST) model was used evaluate impact six major anthropogenic activities, built-up land, roads, mining crop water pollution, grazing, degradation two grassland river corridors (Kherlen River corridor Wuerxun corridor) Northeastern Then, different management scenarios assessed based ECRL framework. Our findings indicated that over 80% attributed grazing followed by pollution. Built-up land played minor roles causing degradation. Due to their ecological sensitivity and limited resource availability, grasslands are exceptionally vulnerable environmental changes human activities. However, comprehensive in-depth analyses of the interplay between activities remain scarce. This study employed bibliometrics critical paper analysis scrutinize 4738 publications from 2000 2023. The findings reveal that: (1) Since 2000, research on grassland-human activity interactions has evolved intensified, spanning diverse disciplines including ecology, plant science, agricultural biodiversity conservation. A notable trend is relative clustering scholars institutions within Eastern Western countries national boundaries. China leads in publication volume, whereas United States exerts greater influence international collaborative network. (2) Approximately 80% highly co-citation literature concentrates elucidating scientific knowledge, particularly impact vegetation characteristics, grassland communities, ecosystems.
