Stabilization using industrial by-products is presently gaining importance in the construction sector for improving geotechnical characteristics of soft soils. The optimum dosage stabilisers has become great interest to experimenters terms improved strength, time, and economy projects. This work presents utilization biomedical waste ash strength soil. In this paper, response surface methodology (RSM) was adopted determine combination curing period (C) (BA) quantity attaining maximum unconfined compressive (UCS) soil reduce number trial tests required. factors C BA were varied from 0 14 days 4% 20%, respectively, experiments conducted according experimental plan provided by RSM design. Based on a Face-centred Central Composite Design (FCCCD), mathematical equation created results. Analysis variance (ANOVA) used generated model’s significance, results indicated statically significant model (p ≤ 0.05). revealed that imparts more influence towards improvement, 19.912% BA, with yield UCS 203.008 kPa. optimization technique may be suggested obtain preliminary estimation prior stabilization.

The alarming increase in single-use plastic (SUP) consumption, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and its detrimental effects on environmental public health, underscores urgent need for to adopt more environmentally responsible behaviours. This study presents citizen science (CS) initiatives undertaken two years after onset of as an effective means engage mobilise citizens reducing consumption. It combines inventory CS actions targeting SUP with a self-designed implemented project. Unlike predominantly technical focus existing initiatives, our ‘Plastic Detective’ project was designed collect behavioural data related use. majority completed ongoing projects addressing SUPs focused beach clean-ups, which primarily involved reporting distribution composition litter. However, no were found address consumer behaviour. activities initiated bottom-up manner, largely coordinated non-governmental organisations (NGOs), mostly confined Northern Hemisphere. In project, volunteers asked observe, sample categorise behaviours their surroundings using model that distinguished between use adoption alternative materials or practices. Additionally, participants’ perceptions assessed through pre- post-surveys. Our findings reveal young people, particular, are eager participate initiatives. Regardless age, gender location, all respondents—despite acknowledging reduce consumption—identified producers key group pollution. We conclude can act knowledge broker research non-research communities, fostering change towards sustainable Moreover, play vital role popularising scientific influencing policy-making processes promote friendly alternatives SUPs.

Polymer Inclusion Membranes (PIMs) are one of the most capable systems for metal separation from multi-metallic solutions. This process offers some advantages over other commercial purification techniques in terms selectivity recovery ions, simultaneous extraction and stripping, long-term stability, is also eco-friendly. study involves synthesis, characterisation, application polyvinyl chloride-based Membrane. The possible challenges associated with membrane fabrication have been highlighted. 5-nonylsalicylaldoxime (ACORGA M5640) used synthesis PIMs. Synthesised membranes different ratios chloride to carrier were characterised by various including scanning electron microscopy, atomic probe Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, understand morphology/chemistry. Moreover, thermal stability was investigated gravimetric analysis (TGA). And finally, a contact angle measurement done check its hydrophobicity wettability. Further, it found that 98% copper recovered e-waste solution. Opportunities future aspects synthesised discussed.

Any hospital’s primary goal is to restore human health and save lives through services provided patients, but at the same time, hazardous wastes are produced. Inconsistent management of unsafe might cause adverse effects other issues for workers, environment, public health. Segregation considered critical stage in successful medical waste management. Mixing with non-hazardous will be avoided by correctly applying practices segregation stage. This study aimed assess personnel’s knowledge about infectious used six wards Nicosia General Hospital. An analytical cross-sectional was conducted, data were collected a structured self-administered questionnaire. According to a recent report by the World Health Organisation (WHO), improper handling of biomedical waste (BMW) is still an issue on global scale, particularly considering current COVID-19 pandemic. The rapid advancement healthcare services has resulted in huge rise creation BMW. To stop spread infectious diseases and safeguard personnel, handlers, general public, biological must be properly separated, collected, treated, disposed of. research states that more than 16 million injections are administered annually around world, resulting production over 85 tons Given condition health challenges, this handled properly. These challenges can, however, used as opportunities find enduring solutions. employ sustainable solutions such agriculture fertilizer, energy generation biogas, biofuel, electricity generation, etc., manufacturing construction materials like cement. This book chapter emphasizes potential for controlling BMW inspire fresh thinking encourage stakeholders work together durable By converting issues caused into possibilities, we can human health, environment, pave way resilient future.
