Freshwater biodiversity has been declining in urban areas, which may threaten ecosystem functions. Although many studies have demonstrated a positive correlation between and functioning (BEF) terrestrial marine ecosystems, little is known about the BEF relationship freshwater environments, especially highly urbanized regions where water pollution major concern. Eutrophication bodies trigger algae blooms, decreasing evenness or functional divergence (FDiv) of phytoplankton communities, thus negatively affecting functioning. Through an annual field investigation, we clarified diversity functioning, represented as resource use efficiency (RUE), river northern China. Results indicated that community contributes most to driving compared environmental factors. The relative abundance dominant Bacillariophyta was positively correlated with (RUEpp) but zooplankton (RUEzp). Both were linked RUEpp RUEzp. Our findings suggest reduction seriously its potential mechanism can provide crucial reference for quality protection sustainable utilization basin.

The unprecedented urbanization recently has inevitably intensified the changes in land use morphology. However, current studies on primarily analyze a single morphology, ignoring relationships between different morphologies. Taking northern slope of Tianshan Mountains (NSTM) as study area, this article quantifies spatiotemporal pattern change, and estimates trade-offs synergies dominant (patch density, largest patch index, landscape shape index) recessive (land efficiency, intensity, agricultural non-point source pollution) morphologies to fully understand dynamic characteristics use. Results showed bare areas grassland were always predominant types, change from 1990 2020 was characterized by increase impervious surfaces decrease areas. strongest trade-off found index while synergy intensity strongest. There are significant disparities terms temporal spatial patterns trade-offs/synergies. correlation coefficients periods much smaller than their estimations whole region, trade-offs/synergies eastern NSTM basically identical with relationships. findings reveal interactions among various characteristics, provide references for coordinated management regional high-quality development.

An ecosystem shifts to an alternative stable state when a threshold of accumulated pressure (i.e. direct impact environmental change or human activities) is exceeded. Detecting this in empirical data remains challenge because ecosystems are governed by complex interlinkages and feedback loops between their components pressures.
