Abstract. Nasaruddin N, Sabaruddin L, Analuddin K, Sudia LB. 2023. Taxonomic and functional diversity of aquatic macroinvertebrate from natural forest as reference for streams health indicators in Lasolo Watershed, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 5523-5538. Macroinvertebrates are known to play a crucial role nutrient recycling serve valuable stream degradation indicators. Therefore, this study aimed examine the structural communities tropical Spatial sampling using multi-habitat method was conducted between September 2021 March 2022 five connected three drainage areas dryland farming. Data on cover, physical-chemical variables, samples were collected, while species richness trends across analyzed individual rarefaction curves. In addition, composition group also evaluated. The results showed that 2474 individuals belonging 77 genera recorded throughout area. We found reduction taxa by comparing impacted at genus, family, order levels with approximate values 83.1%, 74.07%, 55.6%, respectively. At least seven significantly different potential metrics differentiated ecosystem found, including number family (#family), insect (#insect), Ephemeroptera-Plecoptera-Trichoptera (#EPT), scraper (#scraper), well Shannon-Wiener diversity, Simpson Evenness, Margalef Richness index. These offer strong assessing land use change their impact freshwater biodiversity, emphasizing importance conservation efforts ecosystem.

Despite the importance of caddisflies in aquatic ecosystems, few studies have assessed most important variables affecting their species richness throughout a large region or attempted to model such region. We sampled nearly 500,000 adult caddisfly specimens representing 18,288 occurrences and 282 total using ultraviolet light traps from 800 streams varying size condition northcentral US, an area about 1.3 million km 2 . tested 18 candidate reflecting natural habitat conditions, anthropogenic disturbance, weather differences for ability account variation our samples. Multiple linear regression, including significance testing ranking by Akaike Information Criterion values, determined best eight variables. Caddisfly increased with percentage intact upstream habitat, elevation, dew point, longitude, depth soil organic matter, distance bedrock, decreased non-native plants runoff value. The alone accounted >40% richness. After correcting point equalize 7-variable predicted that, on average, 50% loss would cause 30% decrease relative undisturbed 75% 55% decrease, near decrease. Applying 760,047 stream segments study estimated absence 90% were contain 31–40 species. Based calculated disturbance levels, however, only 15% had maintained at least that richness, whereas 58% lost half. Species extirpations generally lowest northern forested portion and, except some relatively small protected areas, higher southern agricultural portion. Overall, data indicated tremendous number site-level over owing principally watershed-level disturbance. Such losses probably occur other insect taxa much United States elsewhere.

Abstract Extensive studies have demonstrated the spatiotemporal changes in carbon use efficiency (CUE) and its driving factors over past three decades. However, how global CUE will change to what extent is affected by dominant factor this century still unclear. Herein, based on CMIP6 model outputs, we estimated situation trends of baseline (1982–2014) future (2015–2100), identified controlling variation boosted regression tree. Further, predicted CUE-controlling sensitivity ( S value , referring higher/lower producing more/less CUE) under four representative pathways, revealed relationship between social economy. Results showed decreased at end 21st century, especially SSP5-8.5, decline rate 1.2 × 10 −2 ± 5.2 −4 /decade, which times higher than that SSP1-2.6. Spatially, 56.9%, 74.5%, 83.1%, 88.6% land exhibit a SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, SSP5-8.5 scenarios, primarily concentrates middle-high latitudes Northern Hemisphere (30°–60° N). Except Africa, temperature for variation, decreases time, indicating an enhanced inhibitory effect CUE. The turning time advance with increases CO 2 emission, presenting prolonged high-temperature stress vegetation ecosystem high-emission scenarios. A threshold can be found precipitation, precipitation scenario. negative attenuated economic development population control but diminishes rising concentrations; future, developing clean energy formulating management policies used enhance sink ability ecosystem.

Ecological integrity assessment and degradation diagnosis are used globally to evaluate the health of water bodies pinpoint critical stressors. However, current studies mainly focus on separate evaluation or diagnosis, leading an inadequate exploration relationship between stressors responses. Here, based multiple data sets in urban lake system, a synchronous evaluation-diagnosis model with quantitative stressor-response analysis was advanced, aiming improve accuracy diagnosis. The weights for key physicochemical were quantitatively determined sequence NDAVIadj > CODMn TP NH4+–N by combination generalized additive structural equation modeling, clarifying most significant effects aquatic vegetation fish assemblages. Then, sensitive biological metrics screened considering distinct contributions four alleviate possible deviation caused common methods. Finally, ecological evaluated summing according model-deduced instead empirical weights. Our system's results achieved over 80% when predicting anthropogenic stress status, which highlights great potential our multiple-level system ecosystem management.

This study represents the pioneering effort in employing 16S rRNA-bacteria and 18S rRNA-microeukaryotes to construct microbial community-based index of biotic integrity (MC-IBI) for assessing ecological health riverine ecosystems. The MC-IBI was developed, validated, implemented using water samples from Changle River watershed, encompassing both wet dry seasons. A total 205 metrics, containing diversity, composition, pollution tolerance/sensitivity, function categories, were selected as candidates evaluation. Following a rigorous screening process, five core metrics identified key indicators, namely Pielou’s evenness microeukaryotes, % Cryptophyceae, Proteobacteria, Oxyphotobacteria, rRNA-human pathogens. Moreover, redundancy analysis revealed three (i.e., evenness, pathogens, Proteobacteria) positively correlated with impairment conditions.
