Little

Microplastics
are
ubiquitously
in
various
environments
from
the
equator
to
poles.
Coastal
agglomerations
act
as
both
a
source
and
sink
connecting
global
microplastic
cycles

oceans

Airborne
microplastics
have
emerged
in
recent
years
as
ubiquitous
atmospheric
pollutants.
However,
data
from
the
Southern
Hemisphere,
and
remote
regions
particular,
are
sparse.
Here,
we
report
airborne
microplastic
deposition
fluxes
measured
during
a
five-week
sampling
campaign
at
site
foothills
of
Alps
New
Zealand.
Samples
were
collected
over
24-hour
periods
for
first
week
7-day
thereafter.
On
average,
(MP)
six
times
larger
(150
MP
m−2
day−1)
than
(26
day−1),
highlighting
importance
frequency
collector
design
to
limit
particle
resuspension.
Previous
studies,
many

used
weekly
frequencies
or
longer,

underestimated
fluxes,

on

with
global
dispersion
model
