Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) hold great promise in the removal of organic contaminants. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced AOPs react with target pollutants to initially form several intermediate compounds that finally undergo complete mineralization. Such observations are reported, especially for laboratory-scale experiments performed pure water. On other hand, while considering real contaminated wastewater matrices, particularly industrial effluents, there many co-existing ions. Carbonate ions one major inorganic commonly existing water resources. Hence, these have a significant impact on respective treatment processes. This review focused effect carbonate degradation AOPs. In AOPs, radicals formed by scavenging reaction ROS. The reactivity towards pollutant varies respect structure and functionality. Therefore, depending functionalities contaminants, show both positive negative effects. Catalytic polymerization pathways in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have recently drawn much attention for organic pollutant elimination owing to the rapid removal kinetics, high selectivity, and recovery of carbon from wastewater. This work presents a review on regimes AOPs their applications wastewater decontamination.
