Microplastics (MPs) pollution and its associated toxicity raising concerns among scientists as a result of their toxicological impacts on human health the ecosystem. This study aims to investigate microplastics heavy metals (HMs) contamination in seventeen freshwater fish species collected from Southwestern region Bangladesh. extracted these using hydrogen peroxide digestion method characterized by Attenuated Total Reflection- Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). Atomic Absorption (AAS) was used determine concentration HMs different for evaluating risks. A total 142 microplastic particles were with an average 1.13 ± 0.84 items per individual fish, where highest found C. punctata (3.43 3.15 items) lowest A. mola (0.14 0.38 items). Identified dominated < 1 mm size (87.3%), black color (60.6%), fiber shape (94.4%). Polyethylene (73.08%), polypropylene (21.15%), polystyrene (5.77%) most prevalent identified polymers. positive correlation between numbers weight length. Low moderate risks microplastics. The (mg/kg) studied samples Cr (0.47–2.89; 0.79 0.56) > Cu (0.01–1.14; 0.50 0.44) Pb (0.04–0.58; 0.22 0.12) Cd (0.00–0.11; 0.03 0.03), respectively. Heavy metals-based risk assessment results show that there are no major non-carcinogenic (THI<1), while higher carcinogenic present consumers.

This study focused on the distribution of microplastics in water and sediment Ganges River Basin to Meghna Estuary Bangladesh. Thirty points were sampled from Chapainawabganj district (India-Bangladesh border) Chandpur (Meghna Estuary). The morphological appearances recognized by stereomicroscope SEM-EDX analysis. Potential ecological risks also measured. average microplastic concentration upstream downstream was 50.9 ± 24.4 particles/L 64.1 26.3 particles/L, respectively, 2953.49 1670.52 particles/kg 4014.66 1717.59 sediment. In water, most dominant appearance fragment shape, blue colour 1-2 mm size. fragments red 0.1-0.5 sediment, < 0.1 fibre Seven polymer types discovered dominated low-density polyethylene (LDPE), eight polyamide (PA). correlation between size shape particles analyzed using principal component overall pollution load index 1.86, higher than other studies done Surprisingly, nemerow (NPI), contamination factor (CF), (PLI), hazard (PHI), potential risk (Ei)- all five indicators had low very high due exposure. data produced through this will drive increasing awareness regarding vast river ecosystem. Given widespread presence pollution, it highlights necessity for continuous national monitoring microplastics.

Microplastics (MPs) form the most investigated plastic category since their size (1 μm- 5 mm) enables them to accumulate in various environmental compartments and be ingested by biota. Beach sand sediment can indicators of MP contamination levels coastal marine ecosystem and, thus, they are widely analyzed. With increasing number publications recent years, there is a need for constant updates on variety extraction analysis procedures developed. Thus, this review aims evaluate sample preparation techniques MPs provide critical discussion determination based studies published last years. We also report conditions imposed identification quantification isolation as well materials used procedures. Finally, we address expectations new challenges related instrumental innovations.
