Abstract The heavy metal, cadmium (Cd), causing growth retardation and yield reduction on rice impacting the fitness of organisms inhabiting through bottom-up effects, has become a great challenge to production. However, effect Cd-exposure development an economically important destructive pest, Chilo suppressalis remains unexplored. By exposing larvae C. different Cd-exposed artificial diets (0, 0.2, 1.0, 2.5, 5.0, 10.0 mg/kg), we found that Cd exposure did not affect larval duration or pupation rate , but caused negative effects pupal weight at high levels (5.0 mg/kg) adult deformity from 2.5 5.0 mg/kg treatments. Although significantly increased female pupae ratio, oviposit when treatment was more than mg/kg. Meanwhile, transferred pupae, females, exuviae pupa eggs treated larvae, exhibited dose-dependent response accumulation. Our results indicated had stem borer can be work is needed further assess third tropic in Cd-polluted fields.
