Abstract The capacity of nano-zero-valent iron (nZVI) and soil animals to remediate heavy metal–contaminated has been widely studied. However, the synergistic effect nZVI not thoroughly investigated. Here, we studied combined earthworms on physicochemical properties microecology during remediation cadmium (Cd)–contaminated soil. results showed that although amendment with reduced earthworm survival biomass, combination was effective at reducing available Cd (ACd) content improving its quality. ACd most effectively by 75.3% in presence under 0.25% combination. Meanwhile, action significantly improved increased diversity microorganisms. In earthworm-free system, increasing pH abundance Stenotrophobacter Cd-contaminated soil, addition co-precipitation adsorption reported previous studies. Correlation analysis revealed synergistically decreased decreasing OM relative Opitutus Gemmatta . Overall, our study indicates is a potential system for situ soils provides deep understanding mechanisms involved remediation.
