Abstract The use of nano zero-valent iron in environmental remediation has gained much attention the last two decades. While these engineered nanoparticles have been successfully used groundwater remediation, their potential soil remains limited, mainly due to associated higher costs and comparable efficiency when compared conventional iron-based materials, e.g., grit. Additionally, there is still a limited number studies describing under field conditions, possible toxicological issues, including toxicity humans, LCA technology, its economic viability general. This perspective article aims describe mechanisms behind this technology critically review potentials drawbacks nZVI contaminated with metals metalloids as for widespread probably limited.
