Nanoplastics are emerging environmental contaminants, but their presence in and potable water remains largely understudied due to the absence of quantitative analytical methods. In this study, we developed validated a pretreatment method that combines hydrogen peroxide digestion Amicon® Stirred Cell ultrafiltration (at 100 kDa, approximately 10 nm) with subsequent detection by pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Pyr-GC/MS). This allows for simultaneous identification quantification nine selected nanoplastic types, including poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polyethylene (PE), polycarbonate (PC), polypropylene (PP), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), polyvinylchloride (PVC), nylon 6, 66, samples based on polymer-specific mass concentration. Limits ranged from 0.01 0.44 µg/L, demonstrating method's ability quantitatively detect nanoplastics samples. Most were detected at concentrations between 0.04 1.17 except PC, which was consistently below limit (<0.44 µg/L). The prevalent polymer components PE (0.10 - µg/L), PET (0.06 0.91 PP (0.04 0.79 PS 0.53 µg/L) nanoplastics. presented offers an accurate means identify, quantify, monitor complex It fills gaps our understanding pollution levels, providing valuable methodology crucial reference data future studies.

The pollution of microplastics (MPs) has received widespread attention with the increasing usage plastics in recent years. MPs could enter human body and exist circulatory system. Endometrium, rich blood vessels, acts as an essential role health female fertility. However, there is no study reporting exposure endometrium. We collected endometrium samples to detect presence qualitatively quantitatively via laser direct infrared. found that was a total 13 types existing samples, among which 6 special were both high abundance detection rate. these ranged from 0 117 particles/100 mg, median 21 mg. Most detected MPs, accounting for 88.35 %, small size (20-100 μm). Among small-size ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer ranked first while polyethylene accounted largest proportion large-size (100-500 Correlation analysis indicated significant relationship between age MP or BMI abundance. also designed questionnaire investigate lifestyle daily habits, aiming at revealing potential living habits. discovered some drinking habits chewing gum significantly correlated higher level exposure. For time, we identified clarified connections lifestyle. Further studies are still necessary explore more underlying information.

The ubiquitous occurrence of microplastics (MPs) in the environment and use plastics packaging materials result presence MPs food chain exposure consumers. Yet, no fully validated analytical method is available for microplastic (MP) quantification, thereby preventing reliable estimation level and, ultimately, assessment safety risks associated with MP contamination. In this study, a novel approach presented that exploits interactive artificial intelligence tools to enable automation analysis. An integrated analysis bottled water based on Nile Red staining fluorescent microscopy was developed validated, featuring partial interrogation filter automated image processing workflow Random Forest classifier, boosting speed. provided particle count, size distribution MPs. From these data, rough mass individual MPs, consequently concentration sample, could be obtained as well. Critical materials, performance characteristics, final applicability were studied detail. showed highly sensitive sizing down 10 μm, count limit detection quantification 28 85 items/500 mL, respectively. Linearity determined between ppb 1.5 ppm regression coefficient (R2) 0.99. Method precision demonstrated by repeatability 9-16% RSD (n = 7) within-laboratory reproducibility 15-27% 21). Accuracy recovery 92 ± 15% 98 23% at 0.1 1.0 ppm, quantitative characteristics thus complied regulatory requirements. Finally, successfully applied twenty commercial samples water, without gas flavor additives, yielding results ranging from values below 7237 (95% CI [6456, 8088]) mL.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging pollutants that constitutes a very serious environmental nuisance and menace to the globe in last decade. The damages from MPs include ecological imbalance of marine environment, flora, fauna these yet be understood African environment. sustainable development goals 14 15 (SDGs #14 #15) seek address challenges combating sustainability terrestrial lives respectively. Understanding pollution dynamics environment is crucial globally particular Africa soon. Hence, it imperative arrest this challenge as swiftly possible before collapse entire biomes. have been detected several matrices; soil, air, aquatic environments, plants, fishes, animals, humans. Their different source routes: ingestion, inhalation, dermal contact contribute an adverse effect (toxicity) all spheres life. To humans, limits their movement, leads shedding scales, inhibits growth, suppresses immune system, causes inflammation, coagulation, also blood cell toxicity among others, on long-run mortality was noted review. There physical, chemical biological transformation microplastics age, leading toxicity, mobility, great interaction. This has contributed high MP intake by fish other animals. For reason, researchers should delve into simpler cheaper ways analyzing its presence develop remediation strategies curb
