Abstract. From 19 September to 13 December 2021, volcanic eruptions took place at the Cumbre Vieja ridge, Las Palmas, Canary Islands. Thereby, fine ash and volatiles, like sulfur dioxide (SO2), were emitted transported over hundreds thousands of kilometers away from island. Continuous lidar observations with multiwavelength-Raman-polarization PollyXT performed Ocean Science Center Mindelo, Cabo Verde, in framework Joint Aeolus-Tropical Atlantic Campaign (JATAC) 2021/2022 enabling characterization atmospheric state above Mindelo during eruption period. Abstract The 2021 La Palma eruption (Tajogaite) was unprecedented in magnitude, duration, and degree of monitoring compared to historical volcanism on Palma. Here, we provide data melt inclusions samples from the beginning end compare utility both fluid as recorders magma storage. We also investigated compositional heterogeneities within magmatic plumbing system. found two populations olivine crystals: a low Mg# (78–82) population present at eruption, recording maximum volatile contents (2.5 wt % H 2 O, 1,800 ppm F, 700 Cl, 3,800 S) higher (83–86) sampled toward with lower contents. Despite their host composition, share same range CO concentrations (1.2–1.4 %), indicating growth inclusion capture similar depths. Overall, record pressures (450–850 MPa, ∼15–30 km), when hosted crystal are indistinguishable error. At these mantle pressures, is expected be an exsolved phase explaining between samples, but other species (F, behave incompatibly, thus, increase can explained by fractional crystallization prior eruption. Finally, based our new data, estimates total emission

The occurrence of class-imbalanced datasets is a frequent observation in natural science research, emphasizing the paramount importance effectively harnessing them to construct highly accurate models for rockburst prediction. Initially, genuine incidents within burial depth 500 m were sourced from literature, revealing small dataset imbalance issue. Utilizing various mainstream oversampling techniques, was expanded generate six new datasets, subsequently subjected 12 classifiers across 84 classification processes. model incorporating highest-scoring original and top two dataset, yielded high-performance model. Findings indicate that KMeansSMOTE technique exhibits most substantial enhancement combined classifiers, whereas individual favor ET+SVMSMOTE RF+SMOTENC. Following multiple rounds hyper parameter adjustment via random cross-validation, combination attained highest accuracy rate 93.75%, surpassing Moreover, SVMSMOTE technique, augmenting samples with fewer categories, demonstrated notable benefits mitigating overfitting, enhancing generalization, improving Recall F1 score RF classifiers. Validated its high generalization performance, accuracy, reliability. This process also provides an efficient framework development.

Abstract. The eruptions of the Tajogaite volcano on western flank Cumbre Vieja ridge island La Palma between September and December 2021 released large amounts ash SO2. Transport dispersion volcanic emissions were monitored by ground-based stations satellite instruments alike. In particular, spectrometric fluorescence Raman lidar for atmospheric moisture sensing (RAMSES) at Lindenberg Meteorological Observatory measured plume strongest eruption 22–23 over northeastern Germany 4 d later. This study provides an analysis SO2 vertical column density (VCD) layer height (LH) measurements obtained with Sentinel-5 Precursor/TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI), which are compared to observations several across Canary Islands. Furthermore, a new modeling approach based TROPOMI VCD Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory Model (HYSPLIT) was developed, confirmed link measurements. Abstract As global populations grow, the exposure of communities and infrastructure to volcanic hazards increases every year. Once a eruption begins, it becomes critical for risk managers understand likely evolution duration activity assess its impact on infrastructure. Here, we report an exponential decay in satellite-derived SO 2 emission rates during 2021 Tajogaite, La Palma, Canary Islands, show that this pattern allows reliable consistent forecast emissions after first third total duration. The ended when fluxes dropped less than 6% their fitted maximum value, providing useful benchmark compare with other eruptions. Using 1-D numerical magma ascent model, suggest exponentially decreasing trend was primarily produced by reducing chamber pressure as emptied feeding reservoir. This work highlights key role data can play forecasting eruptions how use models inform driving mechanisms controlling eruption.

Abstract. We present a comprehensive characterization of the optical properties various aerosol types based on data collected using compact dual-wavelength depolarization elastic lidar (532 and 808 nm, CIMEL CE376). This study evaluates vertical distribution temporal evolution aerosols observed in subtropical North Atlantic region, covering Saharan dust, volcanic aerosols, fresh aged wildfire plumes. Measurements were conducted between August 2021 2023, modified two-wavelength Klett inversion method to derive backscatter extinction coefficients from CE376 measurements. To assess performance system, an intercomparison campaign with MPL-4B (MPLNET) was conducted, both systems collocated at Izaña Atmospheric Research Centre (Canary Islands, Spain). Both instruments depicted structure similarly. Discrepancies primarily attributed errors determining overlap function calibration each instrument, as well greater influence solar background radiation system during daylight. Outdoor and indoor atmospheric pollution is one of the major problems that humanity continues to face. As a mitigation pathway, numerous technologies have been developed for air purification, including use fibrous filters. In this study, particle capture efficiencies pressure drops filters manufactured with cellulose pulp extracted from banana pseudostems were studied across three size ranges (PM10, PM2.5, PM1). Two pretreatments applied, alkaline soda-antraquinone (alkali-treated pulp) subsequent bleaching process (bleached pulp), four manufacturing processes tested: crushing, freeze-drying, vacuum filtration, pressing. addition, study varying filter grammage (70, 100, 160 g·m−2) pressing pressures (2, 4, 6, 8 t) was also performed. After conducting these tests, bleached pulp, having g·m−2 pressed at 4 t, deemed optimal individual solution. It demonstrated high retention all (with values exceeding 80%), moderate drop below 1000 Pa, thermal stability (degradation above 220 °C). However, combining freeze-drying two-ton yielded improved results (83% smallest particles 89% others) approximately half drop. Based on results, stands as noteworthy contribution waste valorization advancement environmentally friendly materials This achieved through adoption simple cost-effective technology, coupled utilization 100% natural agricultural primary material.
