There are growing efforts to incorporate agroforestry into ecosystem service incentive programs. Indigenous and other place-based multi-strata systems important conservation agricultural strategies, yet their services, including carbon sequestration benefits, have received little research attention. To fill this gap, we draw on interviews with practitioners modeling in Hawaiʻi to: (1) create future scenarios of where fallow unmanaged non-native dominated lands could be transitioned under current climates; (2) quantify the potential above-ground soil benefits tradeoffs transitions across these scenarios. We found that about half lands, representing >1,500 km2 , was suitable for rainfall over a third, >1,200 km2, remained dry climate change scenario, RCP 8.5 mid-century. Mean modeled estimated 92–125 Mg C ha-1 (337–458 CO2 ha-1) ~75% restoration area projected significantly increase storage. Considering both carbon, overall expected third just 5% losses. These results provide evidence hotspots transitions, as well need further study changes varying climates types. With similar or greater than native forest restoration, through represents an pathway achieving multi-benefit forest-agricultural large areas offering support inclusive effective natural solutions.

Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) reflects the important role that natural ecosystems play in reducing likelihood, severity, and impact of environmental disasters such as landslides. However, landslide risk assessments often lack explicit references to Eco-DRR unified frameworks, notably for its Landslide Susceptibility Assessment (LSA). Here, we assess how ecological factors are integrated into LSAs feasibility measuring them, using open Earth Observation (EO) data. We conduct an exploratory review identifying used ecosystem assessments, determining their commonalities. Key findings indicate standardization is more lacking than LSAs, with former exhibiting a higher dispersion factors—195 identified across 41 papers—compared latter, where only 46 were 30 studies. shared 19 common factors, two, Normalized Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI) Land Use Cover (LULC), being widely accepted criteria. Our study contributes advancing practices by proposing concrete measures expand perspective fostering collaboration between DRR conservation domains. Ultimately, it raises awareness pivotal healthy mitigating addressing societal challenges.

Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) synthesized by soil microorganisms play a crucial role in maintaining structure acting as binding agents of aggregates. Microbial EPS production is governed C sources, nutrient availability, pH, and other local environmental factors. Another important factor management, particularly, the addition organic amendments (OAs), has potential to influence it can change biotic abiotic properties soil. Yet response OAs, especially field trials, its subsequent impact on aggregation remains unclear. This study aimed elucidate OAs (including compost from residues, mown grass roadsides parks, cattle manure) content aggregate stability three-year experiment with annual OA application. The key role of soil quality improvement in achieving sustainable agricultural development based on highly intensive use farmland is increasingly being recognized, as the ponderance suitable evaluation quality. overarching goal this study was to determine an accurate assessment framework by comparison scoring function (linear and non-linear) integration method (area weighted additive), which integrally evaluates eleven-year field fertilization experiment (including CK, no fertilizer; CF, conventional fertilization; SF, formulated SFO, SF with organic fertilizer). Thirty-three properties, including eighteen physiochemical-related fifteen biological-related associated functions were measured potential indicators, multifunctionality (SMF) applied validate indices (SQIs). Soil health is an essential part of agricultural productivity, food security, and ecological sustainability. In the U.S., national, state, local programs invest millions dollars each year to support soil climate-smart practices. While several methods for measuring are available, ability interpret metrics across regions ecosystems remains challenging. There not yet a nationally scaled framework that incorporates important indicators, principles, influential variables like climate texture in one model. Here, we introduce SEMWISE, Structural Equation Model Well-Informed Evaluation, was developed from 600 samples 28 U.S. states representing 52 different crops grazing lands. SEMWISE seven indicators (aggregate stability, water capacity, organic matter, active carbon, autoclaved-citrate extractable protein, respiration, quantitative-PCR) into individual collective ratings adjust regional differences clay content climate, allowing widely applicable can detect management responses at national scales. Furthermore, first index (SHMI) evaluates system using principles minimize disturbance, increase plant diversity, provide continuous cover living roots. The SHMI frameworks were robust, sensitive, scalable detection levels.

Ecosystem health (EH) maintenance and improvement are important goals in environmental ecological management, help realize regional sustainable development goals. EH assessment the regulatory mechanism have remained popular research fields landscape ecology science. However, methods is ongoing, influences of socioeconomic on agricultural production remain unclear. In this study, we chose Fujian Province China as study area, first quantitatively assess based Vigor–Organization–Resilience–Services (VORS) model, thereafter explore response tea to using structural equation model (SEM). We found that mean value was 0.52 2010, which 6.12% 10.64% higher than 2000 2020, respectively. The high-EH-value regions were distributed northwest, while southeastern exhibited low-EH-value agglomerations. According temporal evolution characteristics EH, kernel density curve patterns single peaks, curves shifted from a broad narrow peak indicating trend toward more balanced distribution spatially. SEM results showed significant positive effect with coefficient 0.86. there trade-off between economic development, indicated by −0.6. There also negative indirect effects when mediated development. overall 0.8, still effective promoting production. implications for integration ecosystem management region.
