The ecological environment of wetlands in semi-arid regions has deteriorated, and vegetation succession accelerated due to climate warming-induced aridification human interference. nutrient acquisition strategies biomass allocation patterns reflect plant growth response environmental changes. However, the impact on successional remains unclear. We investigated 87 communities from 13 wetland sites upper Yellow River basin. These were divided into three sequences: herbaceous community (HC), herbaceous–shrub mixed (HSC), shrub (SC). composition stems leaves, as well distribution above belowground, investigated. Results revealed that aboveground increased with while belowground decreased. Specifically, SC exhibited highest stem 1,194.53 g m −2 , HC had 2,054.37 . Additionally, significant positive correlations observed between leaf biomasses both SC. nitrogen (N) phosphorus (P) contents within parts displayed an evident upward trend along sequence. N P found SC, followed by HSC, lowest HC. Stem was negatively correlated stem, leaf, but positively root–shoot ratio. Leaf showing negative ratios C:N, C:P, N:P biomass. random forest model further demonstrated exerted effects biomass, P, C:P ratio components. significantly influenced ratio, N, Therefore, asynchronism across sequences, strategies, involving levels stoichiometric ratios, determined pattern. This study offers valuable insights for assessing adaptability formulating restoration plans
