Microplastics (MPs) are plastic particles between 0.1 and 5000 µm in size that have attracted considerable attention from the scientific community general public, as they threaten environment. contribute to various harmful effects, including lipid peroxidation, DNA damage, activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways, cell membrane breakages, mitochondrial dysfunction, lysosomal defects, inflammation, apoptosis. They affect cells, tissues, organs, overall health, potentially contributing conditions like cancer cardiovascular disease. pose a significant danger due their widespread occurrence food. In recent years, information has emerged indicating MPs can cause oxidative stress (OS), known factor accelerating aging organisms. This comprehensive evaluation exposed notable variability reported connection OS. work aims provide critical review whether harmfulness constitute environmental contaminants may result OS through analysis research existing literature, well an assessment characteristics causing Additionally, article covers analytical methodology used this field. Microplastics are a prolific environmental contaminant that have been evidenced in human tissues. Human uptake of microplastic occurs via inhalation airborne fibres and ingestion microplastic-contaminated foods beverages. Plastic PTFE-coated cookware food contact materials may release micro- nanoplastics into during preparation. In this study, the extent to which non-plastic, new plastic old releases microplastics prepared is investigated. Jelly used as simulant, undergoing series processing steps including heating, cooling, mixing, slicing storage replicate preparation undertaken home kitchens. Using non-plastic did not introduce simulant. Conversely, using resulted significant increases contamination. comprised PTFE, polyethylene polypropylene particulates fibrous particles, ranging 13-318 μm. Assuming meal was daily per prescribed methodology, be contributing 2409-4964 annum homecooked food. The health implications ingesting remains unclear.

Microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants. Their prevalence, persistence, increasing industrial production have led to questions about their long-term impact on human animal health. This narrative review describes the effects of MNPs oxidative stress, inflammation, aging. Exposure leads increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) across multiple experimental models, including cell lines, organoids, systems. ROS can cause damage cellular macromolecules such as DNA, proteins, lipids. Direct interaction between immune cells or an indirect result stress-mediated may lead pro-inflammatory cytokines throughout different MNP-exposure conditions. inflammatory response is a common feature in pathogenesis neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, other age-related diseases. also act senescence inducers by promoting mitochondrial dysfunction, impairing autophagy, activating DNA responses, exacerbating aging altogether. Increased reproductive transfer MNPs/induced damages from parents offspring animals further corroborates transgenerational health risks tiny particles. aims provoke deeper investigation into notorious these pervasive particles well-being longevity.

Recent studies have indicated potential health risks associated with microplastics (MPs) exposure, including alterations in blood coagulation homeostasis. This cross-sectional study aimed to quantitatively examine MPs human and assess their association markers. We recruited 36 healthy adults, collected whole samples, analyzed using Fourier-transform infrared (µ-FTIR) spectroscopy. Lifestyle factors related MP exposure were assessed, such as the use of plastic food containers. Coagulation inflammatory markers samples analyzed, C-reactive protein, prothrombin time, activated partial time (aPTT), antithrombin III, platelet count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, fibrinogen. detected 88.9% participants, a mean concentration 4.2 MPs/mL. The predominant types plastics identified polystyrene polypropylene. significantly higher participants greater A high load (≥ 3 MPs/mL) was correlated increased aPTT, blood, specific lifestyle factors, significant underscores need for strategies reduce MPs, particularly relation cardiovascular risks.

The environmental impact of plastics is worsened by their inadequate end-of-life disposal, leading to the ubiquitous presence micro- (MPs) and nanosized (NPs) plastic particles. MPs NPs are thus widely present in water air inevitably enter food chain, with inhalation ingestion as main exposure routes for humans. Many recent studies have demonstrated that gain access several body compartments, where they taken up cells, increase production reactive oxygen species, lead inflammatory changes. In most tissues, resident macrophages engage first approach foreign materials, this interaction largely affects subsequent fate material possible pathological outcomes. On other hand, organizers controllers both responses tissue repair. Here, we aim summarize available information on NPs. Particular attention will be devoted consequences macrophage viability functions, well implications pathology.
