Land area optimization for horizontal flow constructed wetlands (HFCWs) with a low organic loading rate (OLR) needs special considerations as the microflora changes dramatically OLR. The P-k-C* approach does not lead to an accurate calculation of k-values in these wetlands. In this research, nonlinear machine learning models [Support Vector Regression (SVR), Random Forest (RF), and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)] are applied predict realistic k-values. Data from 37 low-OLR HFCWs (n = 544) were analyzed, calculated found vary markedly (0.059–0.249 average 0.113 ± 0.090 m/day). classification based on OLR, rate, media depth leads reduction standard deviations (SDs) 83.40 35.27%. least SDs needed optimal design CWs. SVR, RF, ANN tested, best prediction efficiency testing datasets was achieved through model R2(kTKN)= 0.768 (RMSE 0.067) total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), R2(kTN)= 0.835 0.043) (TN), R2(kTP) 0.723 0.087) phosphorus (TP). outcome validated using primary data HFCWs, which also confirmed superiority ANN-based model, can be used customization HFCWs.

Stormwater management ponds (SWMPs) are an important tool for sustainable urban stormwater management, controlling the quantity and quality of runoff in cities. Beyond their engineering purpose, SWMPs may hold ecological value that is often overlooked. This especially case array geochemical, physical, biological processes (i.e., ecosystem functions) SWMPs. Here, we performed a scoping review function to summarize current knowledge identify research needs. We searched peer-reviewed papers using Web Science database. Papers did not report specifically on SWMPs, discuss function, or were solely based ecotoxicological tests excluded from further assessment. Climate change poses significant challenges to urban environments affecting both flood risks and stormwater pollutant loadings. However, studies on variations in runoff quantity quality cold regions, which are highly sensitive climate change, notably limited. Integrating climatic, hydrologic, hydraulic modelling, the study assesses potential impacts of volume dynamics a Canadian watershed (Calgary). A two-year field program was conducted support calibration validation Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). Intensity-duration-frequency curves were employed evaluate peak flow rate flooding duration. In addition, typical dry, average, wet years applied continuously simulate during 2050s 2080s. The results suggest substantial increases rates durations, particularly for 5-year return period rainfall, with 1-h, 4-h, 24-h inflow increasing by 74.3% (170.7%), 89.2% (158.4%), 64.1% (102.8%) (2080s) Furthermore, is projected rise 2.4-10.2% 11.8-17.5% Total suspended solids (TSS), total nitrogen (TN), phosphorus (TP) loadings anticipated increase 2.0-36.1%, 3.1-21.4%, 4.1-20.7%, respectively. As result, current system could overload likely deteriorate under impact change. findings beneficial regions develop adaptive strategies that enhance water security environmental sustainability

ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to develop a simple and rapid method for measuring average settling velocity particles in stormwater ponds. Water samples with suspended were collected from bottom pond Lund, Sweden. absorbance various measured over 24 h (at 600 nm wavelength) then translated into total solids concentrations. A one-dimensional model based on Mason–Weaver equation coded Python solved. measurements used calibrate model, thereby quantifying velocities dispersion coefficients different zones pond. quantified ranged 40 200 mm/h fast-settling 2 8 slow-settling particles. developed methodology provided mass estimate two modelled particle groups (i.e., fast- particles). Based estimates, dominated all samples, constituting 70–90% solid mass. Due its simplicity inexpensiveness, this is potential alternative more demanding complicated methodologies sedimentation systems.
