Understanding the interaction between marine biota and litter is essential to comprehend how organisms face continuous alteration of their habitats due anthropogenic pressure. The evidence here reported, based on both direct in situ observations citizen science obtained information, refer interactions two Mediterranean Cephalopoda species natural environments, and, more specifically, between: i) Octopus vulgaris a plastic bin used for laying eggs inside, ii) Sepia officinalis an artificial Egi lure, oviposition, iii) another specimen O. den enhancing. This highlights presence, probably joint with scarcity substrates, could lead behavioural adaptation responding reproductive stimulus, especially case semelparous species. Based these individual it undoubtedly crucial importance improving knowledge base relationship - effects animals offspring.

This paper addresses several important problems and methods related to studies of inland waters based on the existing scientific literature. The use UAVs in freshwater monitoring is described, including recent contact non-contact solutions. Due a decline biological diversity many parts globe, main threats are described together with modern method for algae cyanobacteria utilizing chlorophyll fluorescence. Observed disturbances functioning river biocenoses mine waters’ discharge, causing changes physico-chemical parameters sediments, give rise need develop more accurate assessment this phenomenon. Important occurring context microplastic detection, lack unification, standardization repeatability used, were described. In conclusion, results water quality can be achieved by combining using

Antifouling paints are essentially used to prevent biological fouling of marine vessels and structures, but their release into the environment has resulted in various ecosystem problems. Irgarol, a representative antifouling paint substance, is well known for its direct effects on plankton productivity, studies harmful estuarine organisms limited. This study aimed determine impact irgarol exposure at transcriptional level Macrophthalmus japonicus, highly dominant crab species estuaries. To this end, we characterized M. japonicus arginine kinase (AK) gene, which plays role energy metabolism invertebrates, examined expression levels response exposure. Consequently, AK was identified as prevalent enzyme invertebrate species, including crustaceans insects. Following exposure, gills exhibited relatively elevated gene compared control group 4 7 days In addition, observed hepatopancreas. Notably, low concentrations 1 10 μg L−1 demonstrated comparatively higher hepatopancreas than high concentration 30 L−1. The results imply that may disrupt equilibrium metabolic processes regulated by crab. Moreover, sustained environmental accumulation indicates it serve significant disturbance factor within ecosystems.

The widespread sharing of information on the Internet has given rise to ecological studies that use data from digital sources including digitized museum records and social media posts. Most these have focused understanding species occurrences distributions. In this essay, we argue also offer many opportunities study animal behavior long-term large-scale comparisons within between species. Following Nikko Tinbergen’s classical roadmap for behavioral investigation, show how using videos, photos, text, audio posted other platforms can shed new light known behaviors, particularly in a changing world, lead discovery ones.

Herein, we report the first observation of coral Astrangia solitaria (Le Sueur, 1817) adhered on polypropylene fishing rope (artificial substrate), collected in areas Great Amazon Reef System (GARS). The specimens A. were abandoned bottom associated with GARS, state Amapá (Northern Brazil) (02°57'54"N; 048°27'50,4"W), during commercial operations red snapper - Lutjanus purpureus (Poey, 1866) May 2024. We observed 226 m lost from illegal lobster trap “caçoeira” (wrapped) fish called “manzuá”, where accounted 63 colonies covering 12.5 cm this rope. This can be a wide range marine invertebrate adaptations for use these types macroplastics an anthropized environment.

Symbiotic marine invertebrates can be small, hidden or difficult to find, hampering the understanding of their distribution and ecological roles. Haplosyllis anthogorgicola is a polychaete inhabiting gorgonian Anthogorgia bocki , where it lives in high densities within host’s coenenchyme occupies burrows formed by host tissue near coral polyps. This study provides first records H. since its description 1956, from colonies Anthogorgiidae southern Japan. We observed that gorgonians were also inhabited pygmy seahorse Hippocampus bargibanti popular species observe photograph among SCUBA divers. Therefore, we examined photographic available on citizen science website iNaturalist screened for structures associated with infestation gather information this elusive species. Our analyses confirmed and/or similar are widespread central Indo-Pacific region. In addition, some behaviours, raising questions about nature relationships between hosts seahorse. demonstrates contribute our knowledge not only behaviour well known charismatic but inadvertently overlooked neglected taxa.
