Induced mutagenesis has emerged as an essential field of plant breeding to address global food security challenges, offering tools enhance crop productivity, resistance, and nutritional value. Among the mutation induction tools, physical mutagen such gamma rays holds promise for efficient induction. Gamma rays, a type high-energy electromagnetic radiation, possess unique characteristics that enable them penetrate tissues induce genetic mutations. The biological effects are influenced by various factors, including source, dose rate, absorbed dose, sensitivity organs. have been successfully applied species, producing novel superior mutants cultivation. This paper explores different aspects irradiation, radiation facilities, on potential applications generate diversity unlock desirable trait improvement in plants. also showcases successful examples high-yielding developed through gamma-ray their impact agriculture. approach offers challenges sustainable resilient production.

Exposure to ionizing radiation (IR) poses a significant risk for all organisms. Although plants are generally more resistant than animals, still impacts their structure and function. Plant resistance is pivotal property guarantee survival. This study evaluates bean leaves' early long-term responses oxidative stress induced by radiation. To assess the response, we measured battery of photosynthetic efficiency markers after exposure dwarf X-ray doses 0.3, 10, 50, 100 Gy. We observed that started impact activity at 50 Gy aggregate in two kinds behaviors. test capacity recover from radiation-induced damages, Gy-irradiated were evaluated with same 3-, 10-, 12-, 20-days post-irradiation. Dwarf beans displayed remarkable resilience, recovering pre-stress level three days pigment content ten days. The remodulation slower complex, catalase total polyphenols failing completely residual antioxidant twenty Despite that, PARP recovers pre-irradiation restoration photosynthesis pre-irradiated conditions highlights DNA-repairing poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase machinery providing resilience stress. Understanding mechanisms sheds light on ability survive thrive radiation-intense environments, such as space or radioactively contaminated areas.

Gamma (γ)-ray-dependent mutagenesis has not been fully established in cannabis. Hence, this study, we aimed to determine the optimal γ-ray doses for inducing mutations cannabis seeds and plants at vegetative reproductive stages. The γ-irradiation ranging from 0 200 Gy was used three cultivars (CBGambit, Superwoman S1, Spectrum 303) seeds, We examined several growth parameters (e.g., fresh weight, plant height, number of leaves, inflorescences) performed linear regression analyses. dose by investigating determined be 125 (50% reduction dose, RD50) 24 h. At stages, were found 75 55 (RD50) h, respectively. Our findings will greatly progress establishment mutant populations breeding research. Especially, vary depending on developmental stage cultivar, corresponding RD50 can applied accordingly. This detailed information helpful mutation enhance desired traits such as specific cannabinoid content or biomass.
