Despite Nigeria's immense wealth in water resources, the country faces a significant crisis that is exceptionally difficult to resolve, particularly considering associated public health and security challenges. This review aims expound on complex determinants outcomes of shortage Nigeria focusing more its effects general livelihood stability Nigerians. Using systematic approach, this paper reviews scarcity, causes pollution– including urban activities, agrochemical run-offs, mismanagement – their negative impacts environment Nigeria. A total 305 studies relating pollution were examined study. One point evaluation outlines existing barriers preventing all-inclusive availability clean water, for example, lack appropriate infrastructure inefficient resource management. The emphasizes improving treatment facilities, advancing management strategies are sustainable, tightening certain laws.

Vesicle-cloaked virus clusters, also known as viral vesicles, exhibit higher infectivity than free viruses and demonstrate persistence in the environment well resilience against disinfection. These emerging pathogens represent significant, yet often underestimated, health risks. Our study investigated peroxide disinfection of murine norovirus a surrogate for human elucidated mechanisms. Peracetic acid, neutral peroxide, rapidly inactivated vesicles. In contrast, negatively charged peroxides, i.e., peracetate peroxymonosulfate, exhibited restricted effectiveness inactivating noroviruses within The largely intact cloaked vesicles remained infectious retained their ability to replicate upon vesicle lysis triggered by mechanical forces, enzymatic activity, or chemical reactions following Peroxides primarily targeted vesicle/viral proteins, particularly amino acid residues such cysteine methionine, without affecting ORF2 gene fragment structures. Disruption internalization, rather binding, plays key role loss. This work highlights protective membranes emphasizes need innovative approaches effectively target

Abstract The study sought to provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Free State Province, South Africa (SA) and associated environmental health implications. This was achieved analysing effluent quality from three WWTPs city of Bloemfontein, Province over a period one year determining compliance efficiency. pH values for fluctuated between 6.5 7.3. effluents are compliant terms when compared national standards. However, none met recommended SA Effluent Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) Standard 75 mg/l throughout year. Further investigation efficiency indicated inadequate technical expertise, insufficient funding, lack maintenance impact on quality. Adhering standards would go long way towards improving surface water human mitigating reoccurrence cholera outbreaks experienced Province.

In this study, we delved into cutting-edge strategies for the effective management of wastewater, a critical issue exacerbated by industrial pollution and urban expansion. We introduce use carbon-based nanomaterials (CBNs), either alone or functionalized with bacteria, as novel nanobiotechnological solution urgent nanobioremediation needs. This technique is notable its exceptional ability to remove various pollutants, including heavy metals, pesticides, textiles, dyes, emphasizing pivotal role CBNs. The development bionanocomposites through integration CBNs bacteria represents significant advancement in enhancing bioremediation efforts. assessed potential health environmental risks associated CBN usage while offering an in-depth evaluation adsorption mechanisms factors influencing effectiveness. Furthermore, improved efficiency treating effluents facilitated was investigated, their alignment circular economy principles recyclability discussed. aimed provide, detailed overview recent advancements, challenges, prospects bacterial application sophisticated wastewater treatment, underscoring vital importance promoting environment.
