Urban green spaces provide many benefits, including to human wellbeing, ecosystem services, and urban wildlife. Thus, there are reasons up spaces, especially by using native species. Furthermore, suited enhancing biodiversity without negatively impacting food or fiber production. Municipalities private landowners invest substantially in landscaping its maintenance. However, much of that outlay supports non-native plants may be less adapted local conditions such as rainfall patterns temperature ranges, thus having greater resource requirements, well being supportive wildlife possessing a potential becoming invasive. Here, we explore ways increase the use plant species settings reduce need for watering chemical application, enhance support species, risk invasion ex-urban habitats. We identify three main impediments: perception aesthetically pleasing, availability nursery industry, willingness policymakers take measures. propose methods address all three, providing successful examples from number US localities case study demonstrates what drivers might exist actions remain taken.

Abstract Urban areas are foci for the introduction of non‐native plant species, and they often act as launching sites invasions into wider environment. Although interest in biological urban is growing rapidly, extent complexity problems associated with these systems have increased, data on composition numbers plants urbanized remain scattered idiosyncratic. We assembled from multiple sources to create Global Biological Invasions Compendium (GUBIC) vascular representing 553 centres 61 countries across every continent except Antarctica. The GUBIC repository includes 8140 species 253 families. number which occurred had a log‐normal distribution, 65.2% occurring fewer than 10 centres. Practical implications : dataset has applications ecology, invasion biology, macroecology, conservation, planning sustainability. hope this will stimulate future research ecology related diversity distributional patterns flora worldwide. Further, information should aid early detection risk assessment potential invasive inform policy development assist setting management priorities.

Climate change is reshaping urban environments, intensifying the need for resilient green space design and management that supports biodiversity, improves ecosystem services, adapts to changing conditions. Understanding trade-offs between native non-native species selection important developing climate-resilient spaces. This review examines public preferences versus plant their implications management. We critically analyse services biodiversity benefits provided by both plants in spaces, highlighting complex involved. Our findings indicate while can be underrepresented landscapes, they offer significant ecological including support local wildlife pollinators. Invasive plant species threaten biodiversity, disrupt ecosystems, and are costly to manage. Standard control methods, such as mechanical chemical (herbicides), usually ineffective time-consuming negatively affect the environment, especially in latter case. This review explores potential of smart chip technology (SCT) a sustainable, precision approach tool for invasive management. Integrating microchip sensors with artificial intelligence (AI) into Internet Things (IoT) remote sensing allows real-time monitoring, predictive modelling, focused action, significantly improving management effectiveness. As one many examples discussed herein, AI-driven decision-making systems can process data from IoT-enabled environmental optimize detection. Smart also offers monitoring species’ life processes, spread, effects, enabling intelligence-powered eco-friendly strategies that minimize herbicide usage lessen collateral ecosystem damage. Despite SCT, challenges remain, including cost, biodegradability, regulatory constraints. However, recent advances biodegradable electronics automation offer promising solutions identified obstacles. Future research should focus on scalable deployment, improved analytics, interdisciplinary collaboration drive innovation. Using SCT help make more sustainable while supporting biodiversity strengthening agricultural systems.

Invasive alien plants represent one of the five major threats to biodiversity and disruption ecosystems. They are introduced through various routes, starting with commercial trade. Preventing their introduction is essential avoid spread new invasive plants. In this paper, we propose a early warning DNA barcoding tool for plant detection. Eight species European Union concern (i.e., Ludwigia grandiflora, Elodea nuttallii, Myriophyllum aquaticum, Pontederia crassipes, Ailanthus altissima, Heracleum mantegazzianum, Impatiens glandulifera, Pueraria montana) were selected analysed. A unique marker each was identified amplified using species-specific primers capable identifying presence species. To verify whether approach could detect in urban areas from lawn clippings, mixes typical spontaneous tested. all mixes, only identified. Abstract Biological invasions pose substantial economic threats globally, yet detailed cost assessments for many Global South nations, especially in Africa, remain scarce. This study presents the first comprehensive breakdown of potential costs biological Morocco. We identified 551 invasive alien species, comprising approximately 1.76% Morocco's biodiversity. Using InvaCost database, we gathered data 12 most frequent species with available data. Calculating mean annual each and extrapolating based on their prevalence Morocco, estimated impact to be US$ 1.61 billion. Urban management damage, pigeons, accounted a portion this impact. Invasive plant also emerged as prevalent costly. Annual exceeded damage (US$ 1.50 billion vs. 856.80 million), driven mainly by pigeon management. Costs authorities stakeholders outweighed agricultural 1.49 859.10 million). Despite challenges from other regions, underscores urgent need targeted policy interventions minimize spread reduce toll. Morocco can implement proactive measures foster international collaborations tackle socio-ecological crisis, ensuring long-term sustainability prosperity.
