The opening of the Qiongzhou Strait during Holocene was a significant geological event in Beibu Gulf, profoundly influencing sediment provenance and ocean circulation systems. Due to scarcity records documenting this event, understanding regional sedimentary evolution has been constrained. To investigate impact on currents geochemical analyses were conducted core SO-31 retrieved from South China Sea. sediments stratigraphically divided into three units based vertical profiles, reflecting changes sea level shifts within study area. Th/Cr vs. Th/Sc scatter plot for indicate that materials primarily originated Red River 11,400–7700 BP, change occurred region around 7700 characterized by increased contributions decreased River. This suggests significantly influenced supply central Gulf BP. These findings provide critical evidence studying enhance our “source–sink” transitions Gulf.
