A study of carbonaceous species, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and nitro-PAHs associated with PM2.5 was conducted to assess their carcinogenic potential health risks in the two main cities State Morelos: Cuernavaca Cuautla. The annual median concentrations organic carbon (OC) elemental (EC) were 6.2 µg m−3 0.6 m−3, respectively, whereas Cuautla, OC averaged 4.8 EC m−3. OC/EC ratios, total aerosols (TCA), primary (POC) secondary (SOC), as well reactive (ECR) estimated, also showing prevalence emissions such biomass burning. seventeen PAHs recommended by EPA twelve measured using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. sum 9.7 ng 11.2 where high-molecular-weight compounds most dominant; sums 287 pg 432 respectively. Diagnostic ratios applied identify sources PAH emissions, suggesting that fuel combustion is major contributor both sites, followed coal burning agricultural activities. benzo(a)pyrene equivalent 2.2 for sites. lifetime excess cancer risk from inhalation estimated range 1.8 × 10−4 2 1.5 similar values observed other urban regions globally.
