As the production, usage, and disposal of plastics increase, microplastics generated—plastic particles smaller than 5 mm—increases, exacerbating environmental pollution. In turn, various organisms become increasingly exposed to contaminated environments, potentially affecting humans through food chain. Crucial findings from in vivo experiments indicate histopathological changes caused by impact morphology physiological function organisms. This study describes induced across circulatory, nervous, digestive, respiratory, reproductive systems explains associated functional alterations. Except nervous system, main morphological involve degenerative throughout body, such as apoptosis, inflammation, fibrosis. Most were inflammatory responses microplastics, leading fibrosis subsequent impairments. Various studies confirm that stimulate cells, increased reactive oxygen species cell death. Consequently, these impair related systemic functions. review highlights fundamental organs cells due discusses limitations involving showing no changes.

Microplastics, as an emerging environmental pollutant, have received widespread attention for their potential impact on ecosystems and human health. Microplastics are defined plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in diameter can be categorized primary secondary microplastics. Primary microplastics usually originate directly from industrial production, while formed by the degradation of larger items. capable triggering cytotoxicity chronic inflammation, may promote cancer through mechanisms such pro-inflammatory responses, oxidative stress endocrine disruption. In addition, improved bring new perspectives to therapy, studies drug carriers underway, showing high targeting bioavailability. Although current suggest association between certain cancers (e.g., lung, liver, breast cancers), long-term effects specific still need studied. This review aimed at exploring carcinogenicity promising applications therapy provides important directions future research emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration address this global health challenge.

Context Microplastics have been found in aquatic ecosystems globally, including many marine organisms. Despite this, understanding the occurrence of microplastics seafood products prepared for human consumption has received less attention. Aims This study aims to determine abundance and type microplastic dried fresh fish purchased from markets. Methods Four locally harvested species anchovies sardines were sampled markets across Sri Lanka. These pelagic are popular items commonly consumed whole. We analysed (gastrointestinal tracts whole body) (whole under microscope presence (>38 μm, <5 mm), followed by polymer validation. Key results Across all (N = 215), 82.3% had (3.64 ± 0.26 per individual), with fibre-shaped pieces making up more than 95% particles. Overall, contamination was higher fish. And, acrylic resin most common polymer. Conclusions nearly almost half dry Lanka, confirming pervasive nature contamination. Implications Differences levels demonstrate how preparation habits can influence intake.

There is an ongoing debate regarding the role of microplastics (MPs) in enhancing effects various chemical compounds, highlighting need for more detailed analyses. In this study, neonates water flea (Daphnia magna) were exposed to polystyrene MPs (PS-MPs; 3 µm; exposure concentration, 1.25 mg/L), a mixture seven organic UV-filters (avobenzone, ethylhexyl triazone, homosalate, iscotrizinol, octinoxate, octisalate, and octocrylene; each at low environmental concentration 200 ng/L), or combination both pollutants 3, 7, 21 days. Results showed that PS-MPs alone decreased body size daphnids, while all treatments increased heart rate by end 21-day exposure. On days 21, + reduced swimming speed total distance travelled. Additionally, time first egg production, but number number, maximum neonate during treatment. Similarly, combined production number. All multixenobiotic resistance activity on only elevated CYP450 day 3. GST early no effect 21. CAT was also affected time-dependent manner. These findings demonstrate chronic UV-filters, applied individually moderately impacts development, rate, D. magna, significantly altering reproduction key cellular functions such as membrane transport activity, metabolism, antioxidant defense. Co-exposure did not reveal clear pattern synergism antagonism, suggesting joint toxicity risks these xenobiotics typically emerge concentrations higher than levels. Future studies should explore potential interactions thoroughly assess transgenerational defense pathways.

Nano-/microrobots have been demonstrated as an efficient solution for environmental remediation. Their strength lies in their propulsion abilities that allow active “on-the-fly” operation, such pollutant detection, capture, transport, degradation, and disruption. Another advantage is versatility, which allows the engineering of highly functional solutions a specific application. However, latter can bring complexity to applications; versatility dimensionality, morphology, materials, surface decorations, other modifications has crucial effect on resulting abilities, compatibility with environment, overall functionality. Synergy between decorations its projection functionality object nanoarchitectonics. Here, we scrutinize nano-/microrobots eyes nanoarchitectonics: list general concepts help assess synergy limitations individual procedures fabrication processes operation at macroscale.
