Abstract Algae have emerged as a promising approach for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater due to their low-cost, efficient, and eco-friendly characteristics. The unique structural biochemical properties algae enable them remove using various mechanisms, including physical adsorption, ion exchange, complexation, precipitation, phycoremediation, bioaccumulation. Algal modification techniques such pre-treatment, immobilization, genetic are also discussed means enhancing efficiency specificity metal removal. Additionally, regeneration algal biomass is presented sustainable solution issue disposal.
