This study analyzed 97 pharmaceuticals in samples of surface water, as well influent and effluent from various wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), during winter 2022 spring 2023. Approximately 40% the tested compounds were detected, at amounts ranging below methods’ detection limits to 5623 ng/L (2-hydroxyibuprofen water) 12,664 (caffeine wastewater). Twelve (acetaminophen, ampicillin, azithromycin, caffeine, fluoxetine, gemfibrozil, 2-hydroxyibuprofen, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, mazindol, naproxen, salicylic acid) detected with a 100% frequency both water samples. The observed high within nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/analgesics, antibiotics, psychiatric drug classes aligns their consumption. Caffeine was compound highest concentration most prevalent detected. Seasonal differences observed, higher concentrations winter. Six eleven targeted metabolites degradation products least one sample. Risk quotient assessment revealed potential ecological risks, particularly for atorvastatin, carbamazepine, venlafaxine, exceeding risk thresholds trophic levels. studied WWTPs showed limited removal efficiencies, some presenting than influent, emphasizing need enhanced mitigate micropollutant risks.
