Abstract Heavy metals are increasingly becoming a significant environmental concern, especially regarding food safety and security. This is concerning as the consumption of harvested marine species can pose potential health concerns. The arrival blue crab, Callinectes sapidus , to Balearic Islands has led need evaluate its implications source part management efforts. In present study, concentrations cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg) in muscle tissue C. were evaluated at several locations western Mediterranean Sea. A total eighty-three crabs examined (45 males 38 females) heavy evaluated. Regarding metal concentrations, overall, Hg was most followed by Cd then Pb. Concentrations also site dependent, with Es Grau having highest while s’Albufereta observed. Moreover, differences accumulation observed between sexes, juveniles females exhibiting higher than males. Furthermore, human concerns for consumption, margin exposure (MOE) Pb all above 1 estimated weekly ingestion (EWI) Hg, below established guidelines safety. These results highlight that from does not currently risk recreational fisheries sector. Considering these findings, valuable bioindicator monitoring levels, continued site-specific recommended coastal ecosystems Islands.
