Microplastics
(MPs),
particularly
fibrous
MPs,
have
emerged
as
a
significant
environmental
concern
due
to
their
pervasive
presence
in
aquatic
and
terrestrial
ecosystems.
The
textile
industry
is
contributor
MP
pollution,
through
the
production
of
synthetic
fibers
natural/synthetic
blends,
which
release
substantial
amounts
MPs.
Among
various
types
MPs
account
for
approximately
49–70%
total
load
found
wastewater
globally,
primarily
originating
from
manufacturing
processes
domestic
laundering
fabrics.
shedding
poses
challenge
management,
requiring
comprehensive
examination
mechanisms
strategies
mitigation
involved.
To
address
existing
knowledge
gaps
regarding
during
processes,
this
brief
review
examines
current
state
production,
covering
both
dry
wet
identifies
sources
pathways
industrial
treatment
plants
environment.
It
further
provides
critical
evaluation
recycling
upcycling
technologies
applicable
highlighting
limitations
exploring
potential
future
applications.
Additionally,
it
explores
integrating
sustainable
practices
developing
regulatory
frameworks
facilitate
transition
towards
circular
economy
within
industry.
Given
expanding
application
textiles
across
sectors,
including
medical,
agricultural,
fields,
scope
microplastic
pollution
extends
beyond
conventional
uses,
necessitating
urgent
attention
impact
bio-based
textiles.
This
consolidates
outlines
research
support
stakeholders,
policymakers,
researchers
formulating
effective,
science-based
reducing
textile-derived
advancing
sustainability.
