Nighttime activities have significantly increased in cities, underscoring the growing importance of nocturnal lighting fostering emotional stability and comfort people. This study utilized simulated virtual reality (SVR) technologies to investigate relationship between environment fear crime narrow residential streets. We created models replicating a typical low-rise area Seoul, Korea, diversified into eight environments representing different times day with corresponding scenarios (natural light, streetlamps, interior building lights). One hundred recruited young adult participants were asked experience four randomly selected rate their perceived level while wearing head-mounted display. The ordinal logistic regression analysis demonstrated that was influenced not only by natural light but also artificial lights on streets inside buildings. Specifically, decrease illuminance contributes an increase general (especially shortly after sunset), role minimized immediately streetlamp activation. After p.m. 8:30, when other sources are relatively constant, proportion turned on. In areas where preventing pollution is crucial, comprehensive strategy necessary rather than solely focusing improving levels create safe environment.

Luminance is the fundamental photometric quantity representing technical meaning of brightness. It usually measured from a distance using matrix sensor, which basis professional instrument. However, specific requirements must be fulfilled to achieve accurate results. This paper considers whether modern high-resolution smartphone cameras are suitable for luminance measurements. Three high-end smartphones were evaluated on dedicated laboratory stand. The sensors’ output characteristics showed relatively good linearity individual R, G, and B channels.
